WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD THEY INCREASE THE WHEEL TAX? THEY NEED TO TAKE A LOOK AROUND THEM BEFORE THEY DO THIS, THE BIGGEST MAJORITY OF PERSONS IN GIBSON COUNTY HAVE LOST THEIR JOBS AND CAN'T AFFORD THE WHEEL TAX & TAGS FEES THAT ARE IN PLACE NOW. I UNDERSTAND THAT EVERYTHING IS GOING UP, BUT FOR THOSE OF US WHO HAVE LOST OUR JOBS, THIS IS ONE NECESSITY THAT WE WON'T BE ABLE TO AFFORD.....TAKE THE PEOPLE TO HEART ON THIS ONE!!!

Look around, theres not a City or County in the U.S that hasn't went up on some type of taxes. I think a increase in wheel tax is the only fair tax across the board. How many people in this county live in free housing, but have four or five vehicles in the yard? I'm all for cutting unnessary spending, but we have to keep our county services running.

I've heard a lot of county officals talking, about how broke we are, how much did they spend on the new paint, and grass at the court house? I heard about $300,000!!!! we must not be to broke! UH Mr. County Mayor

I have several vehichles, but I don't live in free housing. After losing my job, making the house payment, paying for gas that has went up & up (to look for work), paying for groceries to feed the family, tags on 2 vehicles and 2 more vehicles that teenager have (they pay for their own)....hubby works, but it is tough & more taxes is something I don't need with the cost of everything else going up. I'm sure there are cost cuts that can be done somewhere.

I'll have to agree with yall to a point, maybe the budget problem isn't that we have to little coming in, its the so called county mayor, and commission we have spending it unwisely. May its time for a change!!!!

Our historic courthouse is an asset and a source of pride for most people in this county and the repairs were overdue.I have not heard one other person gripe about it but have heard many express how delighted they are with the results. Those dollars were very well spent. This is a bad economic time and revenues are down. Please set out all the unwise spending.

I agree that we should preserve historic buildings such as the CourtHouse, but not to the extent that it caused the next physical years budget to be short, and that they are going to have to raise taxes, or possibly lay off county employees, thats all we need in the county is more unemployed workers. And do you ever wonder why they have county commission meetings at 9:00 in the mourning? Do you think maybe its because they don't want most of the tax paying citizens of this county to be there so they'll know what really goes on, or how their money is being spent? You ever heard the song " Things that make you go HUMMMMM"

I suspect that when the renovations were approved and contracted the shortfall and continuing decline in revenue was not forseen.I cant say why the meetings have been traditionally on Monday mornings but I can say we have had a basically fiscally conservative commission for years.I personally know most of the commisoners and am satisfied they try to be very responsible with tax payer dollars. We are in a tough cycle and they are struggling to come up with responsible soloutions.

I do understand that the renovations were probably approved and contracted prior to the worst of this economical fall, however, hiking taxes on people who have recently lost their jobs and are struggling to make ends meet isn't a very feasible solution. They need to discuss other ways of trimming the budget. When I lost my job, I trimmed back and cut off cell phones, made sure electricity was limited used, etc etc at my home to trim the bills, however, when your bills are based on an income that you no longer have, you are struggling and don't need any other (county, city, state, etc) taxes added to your alread strained budget. So maybe the board members can sit and discuss some other ways to trim the budget.

I personaly know a few of the commisoners, and I have been to a lot of the meetings, and I would say that out of the twenty-four commisoners this county has, there maybe 10 or 12 that actually have the best interest of the citizens of Gibson County at heart. If you wanted to find out which commisoners were really dedicated to their elected position, at the next meeting ask them to give up their insurance the county is paying for!!

Personally, I dont know why one would deal with the headache of being a commisoner, even with insurance it is sure not worth the money. It is a love of this county for most and a call to public service.

who here honestly wants to pay $111 for tag renewal? thats crazy! considering the outrageous prices on everything else.. Groceries, car/home insurance, health insurance, utility bill, etc are beyond belief already.. me and my wife both work.. after $400 a month for health insurance alone, plus standard bills.. i barely have enough money for gas, much less the added hassel of these wild taxes.. cut spending/cut back on the lazy county employees

There are 25 commissioners and and they do NOT have their insurance paid for by the county, but the city of Milan does provide it for it's aldermaen.

I know I personally cannot afford any more taxes and I don't know anyone else that can afford any additional increases right now. I know decisions must be made sometimes that aren't popular but there are probably other alternatives.
