Please link to the surveys and be sure that they tell exactly what questions were asked.

Between 64 & 77%? That's an awful big +/- ratio!

What makes both Jackson's and Beach's editorials interesting? They both named the same person. The rest was GP rhetoric.

If a quick phone survey about the GP is taken, who do you think is least likely to hang up? Or, who looks up an online survey on the GP. I think their demographics have been challenged from the start.

Beach is spot on in that letter. I'm one of the 64 or 77% - depending on who took the survey ( regardless- they both reflect the MAJORITY who don't want this project).

Please provide links to these polls. Who was surveyed and what questions were asked? These numbers are meaningless out of context.

Hello Mr. Beach Jr. this is the pot calling...

He probably did not disclose his interest as you did not state you are in the Right of Way for the GP.

What many people fail to realize about the noble Mr. Toole is that he has been involved with the GP for many years, even rallying residents in favor of the southern or 'locally preferred route' which ran through the Duke Coal Ash fields. There were no cries from him to stop the GP until the route bordering his properties was picked.

This whole thing makes me laugh. Why criticize those who have property in the right of way? How are they any different then those of you who invested in the road before the route was chosen? Why take pot shots at them?

Whether Mr. Beach is in the right of way or not is not the issue. Whether this road makes practical sense is definitely the issue. These funds set aside for this road can be reappropriated for education. This crap about "use it or lose it" in this county is just a lie. State money is state money and it can be used as the elected officials, who represent the people, see fit. If the people tell the elected officials that this road is a waste of money, then the responsibility of the elected official is to represent the people.

I personally would love to see this put to a statewide or even a countywide vote. There would be no road.

All of you Chamber of Commerce boys are just scared that all your unethical investments will be for nothing.

If you scroll down to the "Unpopular With Voters" section, you will see where Beach got his numbers. The Civitas link (64%) does not work and there is no link to the Gazette poll (77%).

Around a hundred protesters showed up Monday. I was called on my personal and work phone and asked to join the fray of opposition. This is all the phone campaign could muster. What does that tell you about the polling numbers.

So who is this ed jackson who owns 80 acres next to the toll road? gis says he has land near an intersection that he bought just before it was public knowledge that the tollroad was getting fast track treatment. what motivated him to weigh in for the parkway? looks he is the guy that kicked up all the ants at the picnic.

Question 10: Do you support? Or do you oppose? The construction of the Garden Parkway as a toll road?
What would the response have been if "as a toll road" had been left out?

The people oppose it Robert. I know that hurts you to the core, but its just the way it is.

Find another way to get people to your flower garden. Maybe you can hire someone to dress up in a flower suit and stand by the side of the road like those tax placesdo.

Hey, this reminds me of Obamacare. You dont support it do you Robert. The people are against it also.

Absolutely correct. The question was not worded so that the reader would consider the overall prospect of building the road. The emphasis was placed on...'how do you feel about payIng a toll?'

Wonder how the question should have been worded? I thought this going to be constructed as a toll road, so why shouldn't they have asked if people supported the Garden Parkway as a toll road? And if all those people say they aren't going to pay the toll, then how are tolls going to pay for this road?

Sounds like the taxpayer is about to get taken for a ride so some rich people can take pictures in a rose garden. Phooey.

Well I guess we need to give up on this one supporteres of the GP. A survey taken by phone over two days of 350 random
'registered' voters, sure trumps the multi year multi million dollar study by the state and all the decision points that were approved. Oh by the way read all the disclaimers at the bottom of the survey.

The reality of this is that if you asked every Gaston Resident, I would be willing to bet that 50% have never even heard of the GP. Look at the size of Gaston County and the small area this impacts primarily in the south east quadrant.

If you read the entire survey the number one concern is 'JOBS' which this project will help address.

Question : Southern Gaston county lags behind other Charlotte suburbs in job growth, partly due to limited access. Would you be willing to fund a new highway using toll money to increase job opportunites in Gaston county?

If you ask most Americans a question on Govt or Govt spending without good context, you can bet 75% would be against anything, just look at the following question on the survey. It would be more meaningful, if the Gazette did a real survey of say a few thousand Gaston residents spread equally over the entire county. So for example if you go to Stanley and ask them about a Toll road they will not use or have to pay for (remember riders are paying) they would probably be neutral. If the Gazette wants to do some real reporting, they should come up with a poll and go get real answers on support.
