Life Term for Man Convicted in Hot Springs
A Garland County jury has convicted a Hot Springs man of capital murder in the 2008 slaying of his ex-girlfriend. Prosecutors did not seek the death penalty for 28-year-old Calvin Washington Jr.

She did not deserve to die the way she did. I don't think he even care about the hurt and pain he has caused her family. she was such a beautiful person. RIP crystalle.

Apparently the prosecutors didn't feel the woman's life was worth the effort.
I hope they are never in her families shoes.

I can't find any info that explains why they declined to seek the death penalty, but I know that Arkansas isn't afraid to use it. Maybe it's because the crime was classified as domestic violence, along with budget cuts and/or other reasons.
Although I support the death penalty, I don't think that a prosecutor should be bound to use it (that's the Californian in me). It's really a punishment for the "worst of the worst" and maybe this guy doesn't quite fall into that category. Just speculating though...
