He was my cousin and was a WONDERFUL man. He loved his wife and children very much!! It is not fair for such a nice young man to be taken away. I certainly hope they charge the suspect with his death!

The thread is from '07, and I can't remember the officer's name, but he was chasing down a suspect near the island at the north end of 1st ave. The suspect jumped into the river, and the officer jumped in after him, and drowned. The suspect was later arrested. Not sure what he was charged with, or if he was charged at all. I'm sure someone will give better details on here. Very sad situation.

Yea it was poling. I feel so sorry for his family having to go through the loss of a loved one. Truth is he shouldve never jumped in the water after the guy they was chasin. what was he thinkin? I guess he was thinkin he was gonna earn some extra brownie points and become a hometown hero. Its a shame that the cop was more interested in tryin to make a name for himself than thinkin about his family without him because of pure ignorance. If the fugitive that jumped in wanted to risk his life so be it. The guy he was chasin end up gettin 4yrs in prison but hes back out on the streets now. I think it was unfair that the fugitive had to spend time in prison bc of the cops death, he didnt tell poling to jump in the river.

got to agree with you on this one, julie you need to chill just bc some ppl don't agree with everything you say, this is a public forum so chill out woman! also bigSexy has a good point, he didn't have to jump in the guy would had to have come out sooner or later and he shouldn't have had to done time for the cops misjudgemnet, he didn't force him to jump in the water. But that's how crooked good ol Gallia Co is around here.

I cant stand julie.she needs to trade places with Poling. She is always attacking someone. She seems to think her opinion is the only one that matters.Public forum sometimes turns into a public battle field.I think its sad for poling and the boy.alot of people suffered for a preventable mistake.

Just like any open forum, there will be inflammatory posts dedicated to enticing or rousing excitement or anger. And as usual, posters are flocking to it like flies on a Hershey cow kiss.
