But....but....this is RAAAAAACIST!! How can people who have only resided in the country for ten years be expected to learn English so quickly? If a person learned one word per day, they would have an English vocabulary of 3650 words in a decade....naw,that's too haaaaaaaard!

Why do bigots like the above demand others to speak English when in fact they have no intention to speak to these other people in the first place?

There is no need to make English the official language of the USA other than to be used as an instrument of discrimination against English learners.

True, but as far as i'm concerned if they arrived recently don't speak much english and dress and behave differently and live in poor areas it's all the same to me, undesirables.
No apologies here i could never see them as a part of America or as Americans.

Just to add more info, i don't necesarily dislike immigrants it's the flood of immigrants and the rate at which things are now changing America instead of the trickle that use to be that blends into the melting pot.
Has anyone heard of an Asian or someother culture demand these changes in the American way to cater to their way of life?

Care to give your reasoning as to why English is the language of international commercial aviation?

That's simply untrue. Off the top of my head:

1) Economization of taxpayer dollars, by publishing all official forms in one language only.

2) No need for interpreters to interact with police, courts and other public services

3) No need to print signage in multiple languages

4) Public service and emergency announcements can be recorded in a single, well understood language

So, there are economic and safety reasons to ask that everyone learn English. Those who have to learn might insist that it's bigotry, but that doesn't make it so.

They maybe partly true, but the incurred cost of printing in other languages cost money aswell as the interpreters that are needed, also cost money and you know whose paying for it. Anything to make it harder on them is indeed a good thing!!

These other people cost us plenty in having to provide all sorts of stuff in various languages -- mainly Spanish.

If these "other" people would learn our language or provide their own interpreter -- AT THEIR COST -- then we wouldn't care, but WE end up paying for people who don't respect or love this country enough to learn the language.

LMAO! So all the countries that have national languages are doing so to discriminate against people who don't speak their language? I don't think so!

A national country unites the people of said country. We need that. There are far too many languages to deal with all of them, and it wouldn't be fair to cater to some but not others. Thus, we should have a national language we can rely on and fall back on and which newcomers need to learn.

If I were immigrating to a foreign country, I would make a point of learning enough of the language (of that country) to get by BEFORE I moved there. It's the considerate thing to do.

Not embracing the language, culture, etc. of your new country (one you CHOOSE to live in) is just plain rude and speaks of ignorance, ungratefulness and a lack of education.
