Republicans face newcomer challengers for Franklin County Commissioner

Franklin County's two Republican commissioners are facing competition from two challengers in this month's primary election.

2007 to 2010:
-Tax mil rate increased 19.3%(21.75 to 25.95).
-Taxes collected increased 27.2%($6.6M).
-Charges for services rendered increased 25.8%(almost $1.5 M)
-The County’s population increased 4.9%

I don't know what the mil rate was 16 years ago when THOMAS took office (not available). But if I go back as far as the PUBLIC COUNTY records show, the mil rate has increased 126% in 10 years, from 10.00 to 22.55. I THINK ANY FOOL COULD BALANCE THAT BUDGET!!! GO ahead BOB brag!!! Interesting that most of those who claim Obama's election was "change for the sake of change" are promoting change for the sake of change locally!
Back in ironic reality, however, Obama's election was change for the better, moving the nation from near disaster to at the very least, the comeback trail. Change locally, meanwhile, would truly be a case of change for the sake of change since our county really does have one of the very lowest tax rates in the state while remaining fiscally sound. You really need to do your math. This is so far from the truth. Do some honest research. Our taxes are actually higher than most of the other class 5 counties!

BOB - You're trying to muddy the waters on the COURT HOUSE ISSUE TOO! ONLY 2 million to renovate!!! Why aren't you publicizing the REAL COST OF THE PROJECT - purchase of buildings last year, cost to relocate offices, etc. You have NO CLUE how long this will fix the court house. Plus, you haven't addressed any of the other parts of the county plan. The “SUPPOSED CROWDING” at the courthouse was only one part of the 60 MILLION DOLLAR PLAN. The reason that the mil rate continues to increase, is to account appreciation for in real estate. Because this county has not been re-assessed in forever, the only way assessment based revenues ever increase is to increase the millage.

The more important view of the impacts is to consider the taxes in relation to the appraised, rather than the assessed value of Franklin County Real Estate. With one of the lowest tax rates in the state, it's very difficult to complain that our taxes are too high, and it's a shame that a math "professor" isn't more proficient with numbers.

So let me understand this... The Commissioners increased the mil rate to keep up with the value of houses during the prosperous economy ending in 2006. So shouldn’t it follow, since the value of homes has decreased 30% in the last 5 years the mil rate should have lowered??? NO! It made more sense to raise them another 20%. Go back to sleep!!

theFUNK cries about liberal "tax and spend" policies, but in his time as Republican Party Treasurer, he signed off on every improper expenditure that his mentor Jim Taylor wanted and helped drain the treasury. The new Chairman directed an audit, over theFUNK's objections, so we'll see what happens. Pellicano can't be trusted either, according to inside sources. He only wants a steady paycheck.
