There also is the problem of these employers only wanting to hire the young stuff...the older 40+ don't stand much of a chance. It will come back to bite them cause most of the younger ones are lazy and don't want to work for their money..I'm currently employed and I see it on a daily basis.

why don't they hire the ones that they laid off back? all that's right they would have to give them all of their benefits back to them if it's been under two years since they been laid off

If your not in someones hip pocket you dont stand a chance of getting a job there!!! I've reapplied to get nothing but a generated email ststing that they were seeking someone that fit the position better even though the position applied for was the exact same one I used to perform and never got a bad review. I was also asked if my name could be put on a call back list if they were to need to rehire employees????? Why was that if they are not going to rehire the laid off employees. I do know that there are somke blowers in this organization!!!! but I guess if you are a JLG employee that qualifies you for any open position available, over someone whos has already been there and performed the job for years.

If you do not hear back on your resume call Shady Groves HR dept. or call Manitowoc Corporate HR Office and talk to someone, tell them and explain and be persistent...PUSH, PUSH and PUSH. DON'T GIVE UP...If Manitowoc seriously wants to hire they will.

They seemed to layoff some higher paid people that they now can hire in for much less. Also just change job desription a little bit and say it is not the same job when indeed it is. This company has had some bad practices since the 1980's and it has not changed. It doesn't matter if you work your butt off or if you are deadwood it works the same. Sad, but true!

I wounder why if Manitowoc is hiring they are having problems getting applicants ? If Mack trucks would put out a notice for even one job , they would have 500 or more applicants . Is there a reason for this ???

This article is VERY misleading. Upon putting in an application and calling EACH week, I am told that they are hiring supervisors and office personnel...only ONE welding position. I am not sure who should be more ashamed for this article...Michael Ross, the employer, or the Public Opinion. I DON'T receive unemployment benefits as I was trying to make the best of losing my job two years ago and began to operate my own business. Of course, in this economy that is almost impossible. So, I don't live off the system, I am trying to do it on my own, and an article appears saying that an employer can't get enough applicants. Just tell us the truth!

They want to reduce cost. Paying a higher wage and vacation benefits are counter productive to the bottom line. This new hires will be layed off before they accrue benefits. Shame on those 20 year people that are layed off and will never get their jobs back.Maybe Union representation would have provded you with seniority and call back rights when you were layed off. These companies don't care about any of there employees. They would sooner have a temp force with no benefits. The American worker at a manufacturing company is disappearing. And these companies want it that way.

Hey eagle34 whats up with me doing my job, it has nothing to do with how this company treats people,
How would you like to work there for over 25 years and lose your job, Just because someones father inlaw helped him move up, Oh and his brother is still working there too, knows little how to deal with isuees. I'm not complaining they did me a favlar
