Signs are an eysore

Those big signs are really an eyesore Lori. And come to think of it, they are from what I can tell all on business property or right of way. I agree it is time for the self important trio to go. Vote in the three challengers. We need fresh ideas.

Do we really want to elect commissioners who will fold when a group of complainers yell & scream? Or do we want Commissioners who will at least try to do what is right?
All in all, Franklin County is doing fairly well.
Franklin County commissioners answer questions about preserving land of Eagle Rock woodlands
By JIM HOOK Senior writer Public Opinion published April 13, 2011

P.O. Article:“Commissioners sent letters to the county's legislative delegation in Washington, D.C., to urge its support of full funding for President Obama's budget request of $1.5 million for the Eagle Rock Forest Legacy Project.”

Question: Where will Obama get the money? Answer – China!!!!!! Vote for change, we don’t have the money.

P.O. Article:“"We issued a letter of support for a land conservation organization, The Conservation Fund, that is seeking the funding to preserve the land," Commissioner David S. Keller said on Tuesday.”
Would you support these salaries paid to The Conservation Fund employees?
Lawrence A Selzer $559,296….David K Phillips Jr $280,566…. Sydney S Macy $242,746…. Richard L Erdmann $576,224….Joseph A Hankins $178,996…….$237,206……$231,101… …$204,568 (source 2009 tax return)
Thirty-two employees were paid $5,381,416 in compensation, are you surprised the budget is not balanced?

No matter who is elected they are sure to be chosen by less than 40% of the eligible voters. The other 60% will then join the chorus of complainers when they should just shut up and weep. This area expects the best of everything for free and superb government officials that they exert no effort in investigating or voting for. Where did Larry and Dan come from. Who supports them and why? Most will tell you because they didn't try and build a new courthouse like the current commissioners did. Even though the incumbents didn't try and build anything. They conducted an open deliberative process and decided not to build. In the long run I'm not sure who was correct. Those who favored construction or those who opposed.

Maybe you should read the paper more often and you would notice their pictures at numerous events, ribbon cuttings or what ever they take part in!

30 years of business experience? One of Pellicano's profiles states that he was a Director of UPS one year after he graduated from High School, and attending college. He's also been living off his wife since he moved here from New Jersey. In fact, no one knows anything about this guy, other than the fact that he is a known troublemaker and loudmouth. I'll vote for those who I know, thank you, and not some unemployed transplant in search of a paycheck!

To answer Dave's question, the Pelican stands for himself. He is a New Jersey spendthrift who will divert county money to his friends. He's only lived here a short while and needs a paycheck. He was also connected with "Republicans for Obama". I understand that he was involved in one project where he was asked to price a computer, and he came back with a recommendation to spend thousands of dollars, with much of it going to his buddies. He is being backed by looney Jim Taylor, scandal-tainted Ben Rice, and the odious John Pace, his loser son, and the Republican woman's group, run by Jim Taylor's wife.

The PO could do a better job of profiling each candidate with their party affiliation, credentials, years of service, accomplishments and a platform & vision statement. Time for the PO to act big time and not only background and interview each candidate in depth, but also start endorsing candidates who really work for Chambersburg and Franklin County.

It becomes frustrating to go to an event and listen to Bob Thomas non stop talking. I like our elected officials to listen on occasion. All the individuals (I am included) who are unhappy should run for office or support a new candidate. We as voters become satisfied with long term employment in public service. Listening is a gift we all should have but especially public officials. It isn't all about them.

The Conservation Fund employees' wages are not paid with US taxpayer monies. The Conservation Fund has nothing to do with the US budget. Citizens approach the Conservation Fund to assist them in preserving natural resources. Many citizens feel we have a moral imperative to be good stewards of the earth & preserving it for future generations. This poster is purposefully misleading people for his/her own political interests. Why are wages paid to these workers any different than say, wages of Wall Street CEOs who were given taxpayer bailout funds?

Get the truth about The Conservation Fund http://www.conservationfund.org/who_we_are/fi... .

Apparently, our Commissioners are a brighter bunch than this guy!

That's a great idea! Only one problem, though. Poor ol' Dan Pellicano would have a hard time remembering what his credentials were! He has so much conflicting data on the internet, he would have a tough time keeping his lies straight. Best thing to do with both Pellicano and Larry Funk is to ask those in leadership the local Republican Party how reliable they both are. I'm not talking about the Taylor renegades here, like Rice, Pace, etc., but those who are now trying to clean up the mess Taylor left behind.

Then his campaign literature is wrong? It's proudly displayed on one of his campaign pieces.

Dan you should just sign your letters to the editor yourself.

This isn't an opinion piece, it's shameless propaganda for Pellicano. I've seen your signs too Dan, and it's election time, it's just part of our Democratic process. Or do you oppose the process?

Personally, I think that with given the challenges of a terrible economy and major cuts from the State, the current Commissioners have done a very good job getting us through this tough time. If you look at our County compared to the rest of the state and the country, we are doing pretty darn well. Our taxes aren't crazy, unemployment is not terrible, and growth is happening.

You say you never see our Commissioners? I do. Saw two of them at the Boys and Girls Club benefit last week. Where were you? I saw all of them Friday night at the opening ceremonies for the Civil War celebrations. Where were you?

Say what you will about the current commissioners, but I hope to see all three serve us again for another term.

The "writer" of this letter can't seem to decide if big business is good (Dan's 30 years in it) or bad (big signs on big business locations). And Lori, the next time you sign a letter from a candidate, at least make it sound a little less like "a letter from a candidate".

You know what that attitude gets you? People who don't know how to do their jobs well. Think about how long it takes a person to get used to their job, much less experienced. Get new every few years and you'll have the whole place packed full of greenies that have no idea how to get things done.

Typical Franklin County thinking.... I hope you don't feel that way about doctors or the guy who wired your house.

Proving once again that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, Lori finds the incumbents' campaign signs to be eyesores but sees the challengers' campaign signs as apparently enhancing the landscape.
Or to put it another way, there's no accountin' for taste!

Great response. It's pretty obvious that all of the letters for Pellicano are ghostwritten. Also, Lori said Dan called her against Obama in 2008. Fact is, he wasn't even remotely involved in Republican politics at the time and wasn't even a regular voter. Then, of course, most of his resume is made up anyway. This guy is a phony.
