Not yet, but you can bet they are retired cops who don't need the money. Instead of hiring someone who needs a job.

So, you would hire someone who is less qualified or not qualified at all to do the job?

When I want any service, I want to most qualified and skilled worker to provide that service. I would not want to go to a hospital and have an individual evaluate me who is not qualified, then have the hospital say "Well, he needed the money more than a qualified Doctor so we hired him".

No cuffs and shackels will result in more blow ups from the folks that should be restrained. Which will cause the officers to use other means of force, which could cause injuries that could have been avoided by just having on cuffs and the officers on the defense from use of force hearings. Not to mention more officers getting hurt. Cuffs should be on at all times.

Commissioner Robert Thomas said it is not unusual for the county to make an emergency hire.

This only happens to limit competition and assure the pre-selected candidate is hired. Emergency, that is funny.

I work for the county and never heard of this until the P.O. printed it, wonder what county bldgs they posted it in. P.O. needs to report on the other items the sheriff has bought without prior approval.

Emergency..........We should have kept the $1.00 leg chains awhile longer. We will forever be paying salary"s" now. If only we would have kept the $1.00 leg chains......

If he is so hard working maybe he should brush up on the county emergency hiring process since he admitted in the article he does not know it. Another case of better to ask forgiveness later than permission up front.

What is all the fuss about???
Good Grief !!!!!!!

The Sheriff did what he is being paid to do. More power to him. Cut him some slack and let him do his job.

Especially those of you that have no clue about law-enforcement.
Don't like what he did, VOTE him out of office. For now, stop you Bit*ch.
Do the same thing for the other elected Officials, VOTE them out of office and run yourself.

What a bunch of panty waste.

Looks like Carol Diller is the only one following policies and working for the tax payers rights. She just earned my vote. Not sure about the rest. Sounds like the comissioner, John Hart, and Dane only want to help themselves and their golf buddies!! What a shame...

It's Franklin County Government.

Short of a s*x scandal, or someone running away with $10 Million to Puerto Rico, NOTHING should surprise us anywhere how they conduct the so-called "people's business."

The only "emergency basis" I see for the County is to sweep OUT all current incumbents in the next election come May.

These folks have had their chance - and have failed.
Time for some new players. Good riddance.

Wow... You would conpare a policeman with a doctor! I think the skill sets are just a little one sided. Training someone to place cuffs on another person certainly isn't my idea of a brain surgen. Where do you think the young policemen of tomorrow will receive their training? I don't buy your idea at all.

They hired more people just so these little punk juveniles don't have to wear leg shackels. If they want to do bad things let them feel how convicts are treated. Yeah yeah I robbed the store but I can't wear handcuffs. Poor little babies.

This is what our society is evolving into. Don't dare scold, hit or reprimand a child. Oh no, grounds for jail time.

Treat the little thugs like they're so sweet. Can't shackle them, they might get the wrong impression.

Leave it to me and I'll drag their little whiny asks out to the wood shed and let their rear ends feel some pain from my switch.

This coddling BS needs to stop. These thugs are your future murders, arsonists, robbers, thieves, etc. Treat them like they need to be treated - with authority.

Let the wishy washy attorneys that established this ruling babysit these fricking thugs. We have more county deputies in the courthouse then we have city cops on patrol. Something is screwed up with picture.
