Benton, Ill.-

A corrections officer at the Franklin County Jail in Benton has been charged with three counts of custodial sexual misconduct after he allegedly engaged in sexual acts with three female inmates.

Scott McMurray, 26, of Christopher was suspended from his job by Franklin County Sheriff Bill Wilson on June 26, shortly after the allegations against McMurray first surfaced.

“The minute we received a hint of any improprieties, we began an investigation,” Wilson said.“We started interviewing (people involved), and through the course of the interviews, we learned some frightening facts.”

According to formal charges filed Thursday morning by Franklin County State’s Attorney Tom Dinn, the alleged violations took place on or about December 2007 and involved two federal inmates and a state inmate.

The charges alleged that McMurray “knowingly engaged in sexual penetration” with two of the inmates and “knowingly engaged in sexual conduct” with another.

Franklin County deputies arrested McMurray Thursday morning and were in the process of booking him at press time. He is being held on $75,000 bond.

Wilson said that tintegrity plays a large part of law enforcement.

“When you lose that integrity, things break down,” he said.“It’s something you can’t tolerate in this business at all.”

Wilson said that another inmate at the jail first alerted another corrections officer about the alleged improprieties involving McMurray and the three females.

A total of six or seven people were interviewed between mid-June and Wednesday, including the two female inmates, who had to be transferred from out-of-state federal facilities to the Franklin County Jail for interviews.

“They were all forthright,” Wilson said of the women involved.“They didn’t pull any punches."

Wilson said that he will begin proceedings to have McMurray terminated.

If convicted, McMurray could face a prison sentence of between two to five years.

I read about this scumbag on the Copwatch forums before finding it here... Scott McMurray seems to have a fetish about having sex with inmates. Now that HE is an inmate, I bet his sexual encounter rate will go up as well! He just not be on the "right" end, so to speak.

Benton, Ill.- A former Franklin County Jail Correctional officer was sentenced by Franklin County Circuit Court Associate Judge Robert Lewis to four years in prison Friday after he admitted having sex with three female inmates at the county jail.

Scott A. McMurray, 26, of Christopher, had pleaded guilty to charges in August.

McMurray could face 2-5 years in prison on each count. He could also receive probation.

According to information gathered in the case, McMurray coerced two of the women into perfomring oral sex. He attempted to have the third inmate perform a sex act, but was unsuccessful.

The acts took place in December 2007. A witness, who had seen the activity, came forward in early June and told a female correctional officer, who in turn notified sheriff's investigators.

McMurray was put on unpaid suspension from the job he had held for juste over a rear while the investigation took place. The investigation was completed in mid-July and charges were filed at that time.

McMurray will be given credit for 78 days of time served in the Saline County Jail since his arrest.

Breakdown of the "4 years" this rapist pig received:

The 4 year sentence gets slashed in half upon entering the IDOC leaving 2 Years. Inmate will receive an additional six months "good time" credit = 1.5 years to serve

Inmate can complete schooling (CWT - Cooperative Work Training) while incarcerated and will receive 30 days off his sentence for every 45 days of schooling completed. An inmate is allowed to complete up to 3 schooling contracts, totaling an additional 90 days off his sentence,= 12 months year to serve.

Inmate will receive credit for 78 days served in county jail: In Illinois, inmates get day-for-day credit for time spent in County Jail, turning the 78 days into credit for 156 days (approx. 5 months).= 7 months to serve.

Inmate can (and probably will) receive home monitoring or work release after serving 30 days in the IDOC.

In the education and/or programs that an inmates completes successfully, he would receive one half day for each day. If he does complete a program that is 90 days in length, he would only receive 45 days credit. The max ECGC an inmate can receive is 90 days. It would take him 6 months to recieve 90 days off his sentence. Also sex crimes usually have to do 85% of their time, not 50%. He may get special treatment though. Unfortunately. Also the county time is not credited x 2. You receive credit for the actual amount of time you did in county jail. He is not eligible to Electronic Monitoring as it is a sex crime.

Not true. The 85% pertains to violent crimes.

You're wrong. Look into it. While awaiting trial, pre-sentenced inmates earn a day for every day served in custody.

Again, not true. Sex offenders are among the first to be released to home monitoring. Violent offenders are not eligible for home monitoring.
