Pet owners by and large do the responsible thing and vaccinate their pet for rabies which as the article indicates, is a N.C. state law. But then there are people who compulsively collect animals (dogs or cats) but do not give them the medical care they deserve. Their animals then breed and present a public health risk to everyone. Such people should be caught, convicted and fined!

Are you aware that if you come into contact with a rabid animal and are advised to take a series of rabies shots that the cost is between $600-$700? Furthermore, these vaccinations can only be given in the Emergency Room of a hospital and you will have to pay out of pocket for the service.
