Commissioner of Public Lands announces forest health hazard warning
The Commissioner of Public Lands Peter Goldmark today proposed a "forest health hazard warning" under Washington State law in order to get a jump on deteriorating forest conditions.

This is valid consideration and shows responsibility for the problems.
This underscores the need to NOT have wilderness areas in the Colville and Okanogan National forest! If the forest were designated wilderness and had the associated buffers,.
these kinds of problems could not be successfully addressed. It will only be possible to address these issues with the full set of options available. Including mechanized application of insecticides, a thinning of the timber that results in healthier remaining trees and the easy access to the forest to carefully monitor conditions for timely applications of remedies.
