"Gill has responded to uncounted injury calls at Rock Mill Bridge, where jumping off the nearby rocks is a popular pastime. " Shouldn't they be keeping track of their emergency calls? I'm surprised they don't count the number of times they respond. The government counts everything that we do.

Put a red light camera there. That will show them. Then we can prevent these kids from having any fun. (sarcastic)

Maybe we should ban every unique and creative thing that these kids do, so that they have to spend the whole day trapped inside their house lined with padded walls, so little johnny and susie don't get hurt.

Phalen said. "We just can't risk people getting seriously injured or even killed out there."

Hey Sheriff- get back to fighting CRIME, not ignorance!!!! It isn't your responsibility,or anyone else in Government to ensure the safety of those who elect to engage in dangerous activities or conduct. Pick the pieces up and get back to patroling.

Seriously! If he wants to really saves lives, he should OUTLAW cars & trucks. More people die from auto accidents than all other deaths combined!!!

Out of about 2.4 million deaths in the U.S. per year, automobiles account for "only" about 40,000 and "all accidents combined" account for about 125,000 (I *think* that includes the auto accidents). Heart disease and cancer account for more than a half a million combined. In short, diseases are the big killers, much more so than accidents of any kind. See http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/deaths.htm (which does not include the auto number, but that's well established).

Oops! I meant to say that heart disease and cancer account for more than half a million *each*, or more than a million combined. I should get my own numbers straight if I'm posting about numbers.:-)

Ditto. Another well-remembered pastime of our younger days goes away, thanks to our "nanny state" protecting us from ourselves at every turn. Maybe we would all be a bit happier with less government intrusion into our lives? Ya think?

Well more people die in car crashes than plane crashes, but it doesn't mean we don't regulate airplanes. Do you realize how much it costs for EMS and law enforcement to respond if a person gets injured doing this? JUST the ambulance being dispatched is an automatic $500-$1000. Honestly, if they want to be dumb that's their right. But then they should have to pay all the costs out of pocket, which will never happen.

While I agree with you to a point, I see the problem of someone getting killed doing this and family members sueing, even though no trespassing signs are clearly posted. Since this has become a nation of people who sue for everything, the police really have no choice but to police this type of behavior as well. Because I guarantee, if some idiot can sue for spilling hot coffee on themselves in a moving car, some parent will sue because their child is an idiot who can't comply with a simple no trespassing sign.

I'm tired of more cities and townships asking for more cops. So they can patrol this? Why don't they start using some of their time to investigate the local corporations and politicians that are robbing and stealing from the middle class.

Leave the kids alone.

I agree with your post and the person you responded to. Unfortunately, people can sue for anything and courts are letting them do it. Common-sense went out the door starting about 20 years ago. Give it another 20 years and we'll all be required to wear a bib when we eat.

Honestly, a lot of people should be required to do that now........

I went swimming or as they say jumping there when I was a kid and am almost 50. I think you are born with a day to die and if your jumping off a cliff, walking down the street or sitting on the toilet it will happen. Big Brother has better things they could be spening my tax money on!!
