I usually do not pick an "Italian restaurant" to dine at as they usually are not really have homemade taste like Grandma's so to find a good one is an anomaly

So not true ladies, Testo's sauce is the best in town. And that little place Vinny's is about as authentic as you can get, owners of both places are from Italy.

Are you of Italian heritage.I have had Testo's and Ralph and Riches, not bad but not as good as true homemade. I guess TGP and I are spoiled.

Testo's is inconsistent. As Ava so aptly stated we of Italian heritage are spoiled and know good stuff the real stuff cooked by our nonnies(grandmothers). Real tomatoes, real garlic, real everything from scratch...slow cooked to perfection. I have heard Vinnie's near Beardsley Park is good but never had their stuff...Love Modern pizza in New Haven better than Pepe's these days..especially white clam pie yummmy

Chef at Testo's Ralphie G is not from Italy but in fact of Italian descent...he is related to Ralph of Ralph and Richi's...which is also a good place.

Out of all the New Haven pizza places, I always liked Modern the best. Ever try Abate's on Wooster? I like them a lot too. And don't forget Julians right on Madison Ave. And Modern's white clam is so good, I like it with the bacon.

Agreed, but I prefer Testo's to R&R's.

Wow we do have the same taste. Abate's very good, haven't been that way for about a year they had a great selection and I loved their veal and fish dishes. My parents always get Julians.it is good their plus gorgonzola salad is delish..Love Modern's white clam with bacon heavenly!! Ever try the stuffed breads from ONLY the Best in West Haven? They are owned and made by Italians from the Bronx so fantastic!
It is Zeppole time and my cousin Louie owner of DelPrete has been selling them by the hundreds daily..I like the ones filled with cannoli cream. He made me some the other day...So fresh and delish-Heavenly!!

IMHO, authentic Italian pizza isn't like Jerry's or most of the others. Authentic Italian food isn't like the eggplant parm and spaghetti and meatballs these places serve. They may be very good, but all these places you guys mention chiefly produce American style Italian food, some almost as good as grandma's...
BTW, my vote is for Vinny's
