I wonder why this lady ( Ms. Rivielle) and her organization are so worried about deer...when in fact they should be concerned for the children who ride in cars that hit the deer. Why are there so many deer?
No natural predators.

What does her organization propose as a solution to the overpopulation of deer? Just cry for the deer, as they are now? Not much help.

Why don't they get a huge property and care for all the deer - put their money where their mouth is, so to speak.

Or jus

or just transport all the deer to all the areas in the US and or Canada where they can live?

Well, Carol?

What will it be?

dear missey, get real, deer are among the biggest pests extant. culling the herd is not just humane it's mandatory. let's have more controlled deer hunts in essex cty., i was here before the deer!

I'm not really big on hunting or hunters in general, but even I admit that hunting deer is needed to cull the population. I would rather hunters shoot a couple hundred deer, then have the deer starve to death, or die from disease. Hunting deer is just a necessary evil at this point.

Here, here! Of course the contractors and town official could curtail building and ridding all the vegetation. There must be some kind of birth control. Thanks for you good concerns.

I know what we can do Rabbit but the fact of the matter is it wont happen. You have to be realistic about it. We know what causes pollution, does that mean we should shut down the factories?

the deer in the reservation are bothering no one
streiter lites work and yet our County Executive refuses to install them; he has donated $1.9 to a group to install plants, spent millions on a carousel, a castle and a gazebo..the man is out of control

Our Essex County Executive, Joseph DiVincenzo, has espoused complete propaganda regarding the need for deer to be slaughtered and removed from the South Mountain Reservation.
In the Div. of Fish & Wildlife (DFW) memo of Dec. 2007 and 2008, it reports, "The number of deer-vehicle collisions in this area of Essex County are minimal." The report from DiVincenzo's own vendor, Louis Berger, reports (pg.3), "There is evidence that once ticks are present, reducing deer can have a negative effect on reducing the number of ticks." Essex County's own Epidemiologist reports that Lyme Disease is NOT an issue in Essex County and has, "no trends nor risk factors"......much of what DiVincenzo used to justify the rampant slaughter of deer.
While Divincenzo primarily now sites,'ecological imbalance created by deer, and the absenece of new growth forests', Essex County Park Commission's own report, "The Forestry of South Mountain Reservation" reports on its unmaintained forests,(pg. 76) "The ground is soon so densely shaded that few seedling trees, undergrowth shrubs or wild flowers can thrive. as the trees get older, some of the feebler sprouds succumb to the shade of others, die and fall to the ground..." Rutgers Cooperative Extension report of 1995, sites dramatic erosion caused naturally and by man---no mention of deer. Yet, DiVincenzo used all these unsubstantiated reasons to do what he and the NJ Audubon Society most want.....an aethetically pleasing, static forest that is NOT natural and does not allow for the normal succession and cyclical nature of forests and the normal and natural balance of wildlife.
Deer are NOT starving in the Reservations. Contrarily, the reports from the carcasses showed that most does were bearing twins....signs of good health......Yet DiVincenzo tries to act as though the slaughter was in the deer's best interest! HA!
Whether or not you agree with the 'culling' of deer, you should recognize how government uses propaganda to gain public acceptance for unpopular decisions....in other words, they LIE to the public to implement a predetermined agenda.
Governments get away with far too much because otherwise intelligent people do not do their independent research, and form their own conclusions. Rather, they swollow, hook line and sinker, what the government feeds them.
Today its the deer. Next, it may be eminent domain of your property.......or use of 'safe' drugs, when they are really experimenting on you and your family.
Be afraid. Be very afraid. Research then REACT.... as though YOUR life depends upon it.....because perhaps it will.

The reason why there are so may deer in our yard is because essex county can not stop building. Look at the hilltop and what PSE&G did to all the bush and tree growth under their powerlines. Where are these deer going to fine food and shelter? We are moving in let the county kill the deer. Why don't we wipe out all the all the animals!! Oh! we are doing that already! These are only a few example bees, bats and the polar bear.
