Also fire Michael Fuhrman, the people at the Chamber of Commerce who were involved, whoever was responsible at County Planning, and Brenda Sandberg.

Start over after Grossman is gone so we can get rid of the Garveyites at the Jefferson Society.

Only in Erie could a $1.8 million grant for a study get so totally f*cked up. Only in Erie. Way to go Grossman and Sinnott. You own this.

This is only one of the many reasons the country is $17T in debt. The money wasted to date on this boondoggle is grant money. So what you say? Well grant money is tax money. Money taken from tax payers who got exactly what as a return on their very questionable investment? Now they talk about 'starting over' when the new administration comes into county government. Why? So they can do it all over again of course. It isn't about the results, or a return on tax payer investment. Its about money, and perceived power, associated with those involved in the process. Protecting the gravy train, so to speak. How would Erie be worse off if the process was just ended? Conversely how will Erie be better off if we waste another $800,000.00? I suppose giving every tax payer five bucks and calling it a day is out of the question.

Destination Erie was doomed from the start because they chose losers as consultants. Why? Because they went to Philadelphia to find them.
Have you visited Philadelphia lately? The depressed areas there have a lot in common with Kabul Afghanistan or the urban areas of the Gaza strip.....War zones which defy common sense or logic & we chose consultants from the Cesspool know as FILTYDELPHIA to tell us how to improve Erie.
Yet another example of the Democratic leadership & progress Erie has voted for the last 50 years. They would have been more financially astute if they opened the front doors at Court House on a windy day & threw the money out into the wind & considered what the wind blew back in a return on the investment.
The electorate now is poised to elect Kathy Dahlkemper who fawned all over Obama & Pelosi, then was voted out in a landslide .....when will the people of Erie tire of the incompetence, defeat& despair Erie gets from Democratic leadership?

The most outlandish aspect of all of this is that Michael Fuhrmann, an absolutely unqualified Garvey stooge, will likely continue as be the leader of this boondogle known as Destination Erie. What a joke!

You gotta get with the program. Its only waste if you are not on the receiving end of the governmental largess.

You all know who you are. Supposedly smart business and other leaders follow this guy? Why?
He never lead a business. He was a teacher and is an esteemed person in the community for learning about the economy and its inner workings?

Go ahead Erie. Go ahead and hire some other consulting firm as you search for some kind of answer to what ails you. Whoever you decide to hire next will end up with the same attitude as this last one and as all others in the past.
They eventually and usually very early on arrive at the conclusion that this area is hopeless. Of course they don't come straight out with it, they're getting paid a nice sum to make you feel like they can actually make a difference for you. You know, just what you want to happen..... all your problems solved by someone else !
And there lies the reason for your hopeless lot. For multiple decades you've expected someone else to fix your problems. You are now so conditioned to believe that you as individuals do not need to change your habits one bit. It's got to be up to others to do all the work for you while you sit back waiting for that promise of improvement to cling to.
These consulting firms and their "experts", they've got to be rolling their eyes and laughing at Erie behind the backs of those who hire them. Surely they recognize that Erie is a most unusual animal, the likes they've not seen before. Seems to happen every time and at a tidy sum too.
Oh sure, they can show you their resume' and the success they've had with other cities and towns. But Erie, with it's core of citizens completely unable to or flat out refusing to change habits will guarentee the perpetuation of the same old problems of the last 40 years. Come back in ten years, twenty years and beyond. Growing worse is where it's all headed here and most of you know it. No consulting firm on the planet can put a dent in stopping this trend.

they got a 1.2 million dollar grant and spent 800,000 of it on consultants. that means they didn't know what to do with the money in the first place and it only leaves them with 600,000 for what ever it is they wanted to do if they knew what to do in the first place.

fire everybody, close it down, and send the rest of the money back.

that money would have been better spent on job training for the people that have lost their jobs.

Nasty is painfully correct. If you want better in life, you should focus your energy on making the most out of what you have and preparing to move forward and away from this area. Nothing is going to change here, other than for it to get worse. I used to have the same pollyanna-ish attitude about Erie, "all we need is good paying jobs!"

And with that, a gaggle of House Democrats are out in Millcreek this morning, as the minority party, hearing from the same people we are talking about on this thread, about the need for jobs, and job training, and how to keep the money flowing. There here from all over the state, and Erie is standing there with their collective hand out for more, more more.....
