Local leaders and economic experts are especially alarmed by trends showing a significant number of residents continuing to move out of Erie County to live in another county in the United States versus people migrating here from elsewhere in America. Don't worry..... If the Pa Legislature ever becomes Democratic again while Wolf is governor, Pa taxes will go up to the extent that most Pa counties will lose population, not just Erie.

Funny how I don't hear the phrase "Pension Reform" - even though the current (new) pension scheme rewards State workers and teachers with a pension roughly DOUBLE of what they would get if they worked for GE...(GE salary positions).

I am not a Republican. But I applaud the Republicans with trying to derail the Pension Gravy Train, even though they may lose votes in November.(I hope not.)

Thanks. It was kind of you not to mention that in my one term in office I managed to raise the state gasoline taxes to the highest level in the nation. The best part is that only a tiny portion of the revenue is going to fix infrastructure, the rest is going to fund cops, and cop pensions at 50 years of age. I just don't get how I was the only pa governor in history to get tossed after one term.

Sadly this is due to decades of greedy evil politicians robbing the coffers blind in any way they can, to the point where they passed laws that are so profiteering based that there is no reason for anyone to try to start a business here.

they are leaving for two reasons.

1. Erie is doing business as usual, nothing changes, except who gets their political pockets lined.

2. when people go to college, they get an education and see what is really going on in Erie, they leave.

forgot to add this one. the Erie school district was in a financial mess. they got 14 million from the State then cried that they need that amount EVERY YEAR.

they got it. now instead of being financially responsible and continuing with their cuts and working under a budget...they are going to raise your school taxes again, after they just got done double billing everyone last year. which means more money for them to spend as they please.

the State financial watch dog cant get here fast enough.

How can you know that for sure ? We see what crap Wolf is doing but you have no idea how Wagner will do . Same old same old. This is the way things stay stagnant or get worse. So you don't know.

Bailing out the Erie School District every year removes all incentive to improve. No one will ever feel the need or care to make any significant changes. It becomes like an always there welfare check. Why put forth an ounce of effort when you know you're made secure thanks to the taxpayers ?

Because unions have been so good for this area lately right ?? There's nothing here in this area but dinosaurs and outdated practices driving the productive youth away. But hey, we've got our unions

In the past yes but not like that anymore . Union mentality is deeply ingrained in this area. No wonder businesses avoid this area

When I was governor I arranged for you to have the highest gas taxes in the nation. I was diselected the first time the voters had an opportunity. My party is and has been in control of the pa legislature for quite some time. We donít balance budgets, we donít meet our constitutionally mandated deadlines to balance the budget. We expand gambling where poor people frequent and act as though that is a budget solution. We donít equitably fund schools. We allow convicted criminal former legislators to collect obscene pensions. We donít propose or favor perk reforms. We donít tax frackers. Fact is, we donít do shit to further the growth of this commonwealth. How can you know for sure? Really?

Businesses avoid this area because of Unions......that says everything. Businesses don't want to pay a livable wage. They want to pay the lowest wages possible. Why do you think the Southern Border States were so quiet about the illegal immigrants for so long? CHEAP LABOR. What does that say about those businesses? Some would say that's just good business sense. I say it's one step above slavery. Do you want your children working 3 jobs just to be able to afford to move out of the house? Let me guess.....College education is the answer! Well that is right but the problem is that these kids are going into debt in the 6 figures range all for a degree that will pay them 40K a year. How much money is left after they make good on their loans? Degrees in STEM? Sure but those jobs are drying up and if your kids aren't the cream of the crop, they aren't getting employment. On the other end of the spectrum people are working well into their 70's because they can't afford to retire. All because the greedy corporations don't wanna pay livable wages with good benefits. They keep moving to the areas where they can pay less and less. How do you feel about your parents working full time into their '80's? But yeah, Unions are terrible. The entire south is right to work. When will those people be able to retire? Probably never.
Union mentality is deeply ingrained in this area because it's the way to go. If you want to work 100 hours a week spread across 3 jobs then good for you.
