Bibbs was serving a sentence of 26 to 66 months for a 2006 simple-assault conviction in Erie County.

The key word here is Erie County, how sad someone with a simple assault charge would even get a sentence of 26 to 66 months, can see why he would hang himself.

child molesters and drunk drivers are released with little to no time to commit there crime again, and a SIMPLE assault charge gets you 26 to 66 months in a state prison,, and fine example of erie county justice, what a proud day in pa it must be!!!

A Corry man remains in the Erie County Prison after police charged him with entering a 12-year-old girl’s bedroom and raping her.

Jeffrey M. Smith, 18, surrendered to Corry Police early Sunday morning. He was charged with rape, aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault and corruption of minors.

Cant wait to see what this fella gets, wonder if it will be more than 26 to 66 months in state prison?

... His charges were probably more severe but they were pled down to that charge. the system is based upon putting as many charges on as possible and instead of wasting the courts time and $, so they decide to plea bargain. The guy was serving his time that he deserved.

Could be a number of things.. one it could be his 2nd or 3rd offense and this is why he got so much time.. It is sad that he felt that this was his only way out and very sad for his family as this surely is not the kind of thing one expects to hear when they get a knock at the door.

X-Devil - Isn't there an armed militia of armed citizens in Sanford, Fl. because crime is so rampant? When you get your own state cleaned up come back and we'll talk. See ya.

some people really do go straight after they get busted for whatever. some don't and not everyone who has gotten in trouble is a convict or loser.

KAS, anyone who has served time is indeed a convict. A convict is someone who has been convicted of a crime, thus CONVICT.

My post saying "loser" was targeted to Joe Mamas Luver who seems to have a spelling issue.

"A person found or declared guilty of an offense or crime."
So that means if you got a speeding or parking ticket and were found guilty or paid a fine you are a convict? I think that we must be alittle kinder as everyone is fighting some sort of battle and life is not easy for many. The man is dead and whether he was a convict or not he was a brother and a son maybe a father and can't we at least be civil and not trash him? Let him rest in peace and give the family a break.

Pa Criminal Dockets are public record and can be viewed even from your own personal computer. It took me all of about 2 minutes to find Mr. Bibbs criminal record and see exactly what he was charged with, what he plead to and what he was sentenced to. The FACTS are he was on Erie County probation for Driving at an unsafe speed and Giving false identification to law enforcement officers. Wow! He's really some hard core "convict"! He then got into a fight (simple assult charge) while on probation and was given state time. Pretty said considering it's classified as a M3, yet he was doing a state bid.

Everyone really needs to sit back and take a hard look at our judicial system! We've got this case ... purley a case of he screwed up and the "punishment" was overkill. Yet we've got Ms Steward, who's pure lack of responsibility caused the death of two toddlers and she's doing 11 months in County. Were is the justice? It all boils down to this! MONEY and who your attorney is. Mr. Bibbs had a public defender (also part of his criminal docket) and Ms Steward didn't. There is such a huge difference in the range of sentencings in this county. Understandable that if you break the law, you should have to pay the price for your actions. However, be FAIR and JUST!

It's really a shame that Mr. Bibbs felt he had "no way out" because his min date of release was just a few months away. Obviously there is more to the story! May his family find peace and solice druing this painfull time in your lives.

This man may not have been innocent....but there are plenty more who have been convicted that were innocent.
I hope this never happens to you, but if the time ever comes when you are convicted of something that you were innocent of....I wonder how your mind will think about "one less POS".
There ARE some law enforcement, because of what their profession demands, that resort to use corrupt methods to convict because 'they can' just to win because they don't 'care' enough or have become 'complacent' in their jobs; they begin to think everyone is "guilty until proven innocent" instead of "innocent until proven guilty".
