Curious if anyone here would have been a customer carrying a gun that evening would you have shot the bum to defend the clerk?

Of course they would. The trigger happy tea billies that walk around carrying guns are just looking for an excuse to use them.

I carry everywhere I'm legally able, everyday. I can say with certainty that unless a criminal gunman poses an immediate threat to myself or a member of my family then I'm not getting involved.

So in this case unless I happen to be standing next to the clerk at the time or was directly threatened elsewhere in the store it is not my problem.

While there can be justification of defense for a 3rd party such as the clerk, every such situation exposes the shooter to potential liability and criminal prosecution. Accepting that risk for myself and my family is one thing, for a stranger it is entirely another.

Likewise and agree. As Bob M. said it so beautifully, using my weapon is the last thing I do at the worst moment of my life. Believe me, I hope I never have to use it but if the situation presents itself I will be thankful I have it. I have also been activEly involved in unarmed self defense for 2 decades, also something I have never had to use and hope I never have to. Awareness is key to self preservation. Running away is also self defense. If you can.

Are you really that dumb? Or do you just pretend to be on here?
Legal gun owners are not "trigger happy" as a rule

Got very mixed feelings on my response here Sig on the chance you might be related to one of my formative dojo's valued members--and a friend--Steve Sauer. Flame off ;)

Weapon use aside, let's speak to the worst moment of a person's life. If I carried and a clerk got shot because I could have drawn on a perp, made him drop it yet didn't, and the clerk got killed, THAT would be one of the worst moments of my life.

Congrats on your 20 years of dedication to the arts. Perhaps when you have 40 plus you'll understand that while ability wanes understanding increases. My understanding is that it was never about me but more so was about not self-protection, but about protecting the weak by being their strength for them.

Meditate on it then choose your brand of poison is all I ask. It's all any of us can do.

Now that's a wild thought! Even for his own money. Even if he didn't believe in hell, what's the big deal if your life is preserved and you get to live another day to work at a shitty job?

In my statement I never said I wouldn't help those that were in harms way. However, I do not wear an "S" on my chest and also am not LE. If I was in the store and saw a perp holding a gun, I would probably do what it takes to handle the situation, now if my little kids were with me, my focus is protecting them. You never really know what you'll do in a situation until you're in it. However that is where training comes in. "If you never pratice, you'll never be any better than you are today"

BTW, where did / do you train?

Good point here. Whether with shooting or anything else practice and/or devotion is the key. Also, without practice abilities decline.

I do little that resembles training as it should be or devotion currently. In the day I didn't stay with one school and mainly trained with advanced people. The Y was a big factor too. As you know, conditioning matters ;)

Good luck in your pursuits. Let's hope you never have to shoot or harm anyone.

Good question. Maybe they don't have enough proof to make an arrest. If you have info maybe you should give them a call.
