Ya i get that but people don't need to talk bad on him, he didn't need to die. Couldn't have been that much of a threat, seeing he didn't shoot. Will never know what happened. Its only the clerks side of the story we get, and people are putting him down as a bad person. Pats not that stupid, he wouldn't have pulled the trigger and he didn't. He could have shot back ... let his family and friends grieve..
Please learn to write in English. I also hope you're just a troll and not serious, but I've seen my share of low-lives being defended before. Anyway...

"he didn't need to die"

Yes he did. He threatened to take away an innocent person's life. As a result, he loses the right to his own life. Thankfully, the clerk was armed and took down the trash.

"Couldn't have been that much of a threat, seeing he didn't shoot."

Real life isn't a video game. Want to show a gun or point it at someone's head? Expect to get shot.

"Its only the clerks side of the story we get..."

Thankfully, the dead bastard can't give his. Atkins had a credibility issue. Who is more likely to give an unbiased testimony? A clerk (who probably doesn't have a criminal record) or some white trash who has been convicted for previous crimes?

"...and people are putting him down as a bad person."

For attempted homicide, he is definitely a bad person. What happened to "Do not murder"?

"Pats not that stupid, he wouldn't have pulled the trigger and he didn't."

Very stupid for brandishing a weapon. Great, he may not have pulled the trigger, but showing someone a gun and attempting to rob violates an innocent person's right to life. The clerk had every right to retaliate against that white trash. Good riddance to that wannabe thug.

We all make mistakes. How you going to talk a mess on someone who can't even defend theirselves. I hope the clerk gets charges for shooting him after his back was turned and already leaving. Rip pat. May all you talking a mess on someone you don't know and who can't defend them selves may you rot in hell! Bet you couldn't survive a day in his shoes.

I donít think that the clerk intended to go into work that evening to kill anyone. Atkins went to rob the business and intending to kill if need be. If not he would have only said he had a gun and had his finger pointed.

I agree. The clerk was only doing whatever it took to defend his life. I can't believe anyone would try to defend Atlins. Also, why does the news story keep referring to him as an actor? Is that a police/legal term for the assailant?

The kid got what he deserved. Thinking or arguing otherwise is just plain silly in this particular case.

I don't much care for the "he was a good kid" line or the "he would never have pulled the trigger line" because that very same line of thinking also implies he would not have been in the store with a gun and evil intentions.

Addiction, specifically heroin addiction makes you do bad things - some of which seemingly out of character and maybe even beyond one's control. However, keep in mind that before it was an addiction is was a choice. He got exactly what he deserved - no more and no less.

Also if I were the clerk it would be ok that I just shot the perp where normal people have a heart, killing him.
But if a close family member or friend were the clerk I would have come down after the fact, sledgehammered the perp's skull, sliced up his face and shit in his mouth...just prior to torching his carcass.
Please somebody, let the perp's family know how lucky they are that their precious snowflake didn't screw with my family or close friends.
I'm getting just a little tired of this shit in Erie.
