It doesn't sound like the people in the article have any of those luxuries. The first one in particular is an older lady. Race was never mentioned, but the picture of one of the people the article is about shows a white person.

Another Erie Times tear jerker ....Poverty! Poverty! Poverty! Feature a couple of aged White folks who can & will get the help they need if they are not trampled in the Black Welfare Land Whale Stampede which happens every time they hear another benefit is available even if it is not being offered for them.
Do away with welfare /entitlements for the healthy & able to work people of all racial ethnicity or gender & there will be plenty of money available for those who need & deserve assistance.
Too many freeloaders , over leisured Welfare Queen` s, Slugs, Lizards & Parasites getting a free ride now.

I'll bet most of these people in poverty applied themselves well when they were back in school. I'm sure most of them did not spend their time screwing off and really buckled down on their studies. Surely most of those in poverty just had bad breaks while the rest of society benefited from pure luck. I'm positive that's why there are so many poor people.

The problem is the old bait & switch attitude of Liberal newspapers ......Show one thing but the real agenda is elsewhere.
You see here in Erie we know full well about how over served the Black Welfare base of the Democratic Party really is....it is how they keep them voting Democratic even though the system is criminally abused by the welfare parasites every day.
It is about more handouts for the black welfare core base ....it is just they cannot openly say so , bait & switch they have been doing it for over 50 years here. Lyndon Johnson said it best when the civil rights law passed & the federal money floodgates opened up..."This will keep the Negros voting Democratic for 150 years"
Here in Erie it is possible for Welfare assistance & entitlement s to approach $36,000 in value yearly if the system is played properly...there are agencies here to make sure the blacks do.
It is so rampant here recently at a job fair a black man said on camera ...He did not need a job because he would lose welfare benefits if he worked.but increased welfare benefits would be nice
Why do these agencies ignore or fail to support those who really need help?....the reason is political & the newspaper is pushing the same agenda as the Democratic party.

No, they aren't loaned money. The checks and access cards are given to them. By us, the hardworking taxpayer. My grandmother owned a pizza shop in Wesleyville on Buffalo Road from 1969 until 1985 when grandpa died. She paid taxes all those years. Her and grandpa paid property tax from the time they were married. She is now 90 and blind. Guess what they said she could have for food stamps? A whopping $10 a month. Because she worked all those years. Take a welfare junkie. They can get upwards of $500 in food stamps, and have never paid a dime in taxes. And will likely never work. But my grandmother who was so generous over the years, can't get crap. The system should be more fairly balanced. The more you do, the more help you get. The less you do, the less you get. Right now there is no motivation to better oneself or to get off of welfare. Why would they want to? But I wish I could choose not to give any of my tax money to welfare programs. How do the caseworkers live with themselves.

In fact, in 2012 more than 47.8 percent of families receiving food stamp were working (the highest ever), and only 13.2 percent were welfare recipients with no working adults, according to the US Department of Agriculture.
The USDA reported that, "76% of SNAP households included a child, an elderly person, or a disabled person. These vulnerable households receive 83% of all SNAP benefits."
Not exactly the "able-bodied" folks our legislators talk about. Here are some other statistics that debunk the welfare queen stereotype. In 2009, 32.2 percent of food stamp recipients were white, versus 22.5 percent of African-American households, and 15.5 percent Hispanics

2. A lot of welfare recipients are drug addicts and alcoholics and they stay poor as a result of their addictions.

Most often, poverty in itself is not caused by addiction, but rather an addiction is the result of falling into poverty. Furthermore, people of all socioeconomic backgrounds suffer from addictions.

1. Most of the people on welfare are African-Americans.

Think again! The margin between Caucasians and African-Americans who are on welfare is extremely narrow — 38.8 percent of Caucasians, and 39.8 percent of African-Americans are on welfare.

Well ..........
1. I suggest you read Annes post above
2. I had my father living with me for the last 4 years of his life, he lost his food stamps when he moved in with me.My father , My responsibility & I was OK with that.
3.My dad had a combination income of $ 643.00 per month from a forced early retirement , small pension & very small SS. Certainly not enough to live on independently but apparently was a fortune to the IRS because of that income I could not claim him as a dependent.on my taxes. Again though I believe I should have been able to declare hi as a dependent ....My father & my responsibility
4. You obviously have never been in Erie to witness what goes on here but it sure does not line up with the alleged info you posted.
5. One thing people like you fail to understand.....When the agenda is the guideline , somehow those promoting it manage to publish data supporting it which most often conflicts with reality...Gotta get past the evening news on the lame stream media to find the truth.
6. Before my retirement I routinely traveled all over this country on business ....what I saw first hand , read in local newspapers & watched on local telecasts did not match to the the info you posted. Reality seldom does when support for the agenda is of paramont importance.
5..
