In this closure effort, has an impact study been performed? Have the waste piles that will be used for closure, been evaluated for strength and durability? Are these materials potentially acid generating? What measures are in place to ensure the integrity of the engineering of these systems? Were the closure systems designed by a PE at army core of engineers? How will the disturbance area generated by this project be reclaimed?
I suggest and recommend that the public demand answers to these questions when projects in their local and beloved lands are implemented. There are many projects and engineered works that fail. Think of bridge failures, all of which have been 'engineered'. The hand of humans can have an adverse impact if the local public does not demand accountability for work efforts performed on sensitive and fragile lands.
