I would have to disagree with Professor Guelzo as it being an old wives tale. Since I was born and raised in the area I know of at least of one instance that the Fed's were there looking for the gold. So Professor Guelzo,if there was no truth to it then why was our goverment treasure hunting?

GENERALLY THE GOVERNMENT KEEPS THE PUBLIC FROM DIGGING UP ARTIFACTS ON PUBLICLY OWNED LANDS. THERES A LOT OF HISTORY IN THE GROUND AND IN THE BAYS ALSO ON THE BEACHES WERE I LIVE BUT YOU CAN'T GO PROSPECTING FOR THEM. THE GOVERMENT HAS NO INTEREST IN THE POSSIBILITY OF DIGGING UP HISTORY IN MY AREA SO FOR THE MOST PART THE HISTORY WILL BE LOST FOR EVER.AND THATS A SHAME.THE LAND AND THE WATERS BELONG TO THE PEOPLE THE PEOPLE SHOULD THE RIGHT TO RECOVER THERE OWN HISTORY WITH NOMINTERFERENCE FROM ANY OFFICE.

The people can't dig but the state can, look at the big mess on Winslow Hill. Alout of trees were cut, where did the money go? Alout of limestone removed, where did the money go? And then the coal!!!!! Restoration is a joke, you level off all the damage and plant seedlings off which most die. Pennsylvania Wilds arn't what they want people to belive they are!!!!

I agree, We should have the right to turn over a little dirt and looks around in our state. We pay our taxes, we pay the due's to enjoy the land. God gave us all of this not the Government. Let me just say I know what i find, is being claimed to come right out of my yard. and THEY can prove it didn't.

The Centralia fire was a smoke screen for the secret PA Govt gold search.
It isn't there though, it "was" in Gettysburg, why do you think they "really" took down the tower.

The fact is there is gold in Southern PA.We have an abundance of oil, natural gas and gold. The truth is we have enough oil under our soil to supply each and every Pennsylvanian with fuel for the next 200 years.

When I was a kid a neighbor of mine found a sizeable stashe of gold and other CSA artifacts buried in the Pine Grove Furnace State Park area of Michaux State Forest. Apparently General Lee and his Army of Northern Virginia hid it there on their march to Gettysburg right after pillaging Carlisle. When they got their butts kicked in Gettysburg the A.N.V. had to flee south into Maryland so they never were never able to return north again to retrieve the gold. Rumors persist to this day that more gold is buried there but has yet to be found.

You don't need to look for civil war gold get yourself a shovel and start digging.
Natural resources abound all over the world, why do people think Pennsylvania is exempt?
Wherever you have mountains and foothills ,you have diamonds, gold, silver, uranium,p latinum, oil and gas.
There is a ridge in Glen Rock that contains large quantities of gold. You would be surprised at what your sitting on.

the limestone went back ino the ground for ph control. there wasn't that much coal or trees, it was an old strip job. and the elk eat any seedlings you try to plant.
