Scare tactics. If scare tactics don't work, the city of Colorado Springs (read Lionel Rivera and city council) will resort to, and has resorted to, threats -- like a lien on your home because you don't want to pay extra taxes because rain falls on your property (even during a drought!). And furthermore, apparently it is against "city law" for you to collect water before it runs off of your property (e.g., in your effort to mitigate or eliminate the reason for the needed "service"). The city wants expensive additions to a storm water repair service for which the need has not been demonstrated, and for which any problems that have resulted are because of THE CITY's NEGLECT to manage its budget and to use your tax dollars responsibly over the past decades. This "fee" is for a city function that YOU HAVE ALREADY PAID FOR through closing costs when you financed or purchased your home (including DEVELOPER'S FEES), years of property taxes, utility bills, and waste-water fees.
Vote YES on 200 and 201. And do NOT pay your stormwater "fee" regardless of the outcome. We should not be voting on this anyway! The city BROKE THE LAW by going against the Tax Payers' Bill of Rights (TABOR) that the citizens approved! RIVERA AND COUNCIL MEMBERS WHO APPROVED THIS SHOULD BE PROSECUTED FOR BREAKING THE LAW. If you pay STORMWATER FEES, you are conceding to Mafioso tactics. If you agree that the city has the right and the power to decide for us all, while denying all of us the right to vote, then send them as much of YOUR OWN MONEY as you want to.
