Just can't wait until the panhandlers on Spring Street in New York City start saying:

I've seen homeless at Union Station holding signs that say will work for food or air miles.

Only to dyslexic agnostics. You've heard about the dyslexic insomniac agnostic haven't you? He stayed up all night wondering if there really was a dog.

Yeah, but using plastic would ruin the essential anonymousness of dropping a coin in a bucket.

For several decades someone's been dropping Gold Krugerrand into Salvation Army buckets around Chicago - but the mysterious benefactor has never been identified.

There's something very cool and pure about giving anonymously (or, at least, I think there is).

We've got a couple of homeless guys in our small town here. They are always asking for soda and beer cans to return for deposit for beer money. A few months ago I was in the little store waiting in line when I heard one of them in front of me telling the cashier that he was getting less money these days because one of his better "can accounts" had moved away.

Can accounts. Never heard it quite like that, but I guess it works. grin...

I agree whole heartedly. The giving is its own reward. I am always put-off by people who give and then feel the need to broadcast the fact to anyone who'll listen.

I used to do a single panel cartoon for an alternative weekly newspaper here in the northwest. I drew a cartoon where this hobo was standing there holding a sign. At his feet were sheets of cardboard, paint and paint brushes.

The sign he was holding read, "Will paint 'WILL WORK FOR FOOD' signs for food."

I don't even have a credit card. Guess they'll have to settle for the pennies in my pocket.
