Balink has his own campaign to run for the El Paso County Assessor's race. Consider that. He's also the present County Clerk and Recorder in El Paso County. By all accounts, he runs a tight ship. By all accounts, Dan Maes has not. Put all those factors together and that as a treasurer, Balink would have to sign off on campaign finance reports with the personal liability as comes from that, and I think you're probably seeing Balink getting off the road for more reasons than the drive being too long. With situations like the $300 donated by Freda Poundstone, what may Balink have seen in Maes' books that would tell him to resign before signing any campaign finance reports?
