Since this is an "Emergency" order, maybe they could use the "new", "Emergency" (and non-working), warning system that replaced the non-working Weather Sirens to warn people about burning (just incase they don't get the newspaper or internet).

Who ordered the burn ban?
Was there an emergency COUNTY board meeting?
Did the Sheriff order it?
Did the Fire Chief (that works for the city, NOT the county) order it?

Can we burn again since it rained this morning?

Please tell us.

OK, now that the TribuneStar website is back up - they state that it was enacted by the Edgar County Sheriff and the Paris Fire Chief. Wonder why that part wasn't in the BeaConfused.

Didn't mention what the fine would be so there is no way for me to make an informed decision on whether to burn or not. Would be nice to know if it would be a $100 decision or a $10,000 decision...

OK, I don't plan on burning anything (and never did). I was just curious as to which, state/county/city, statute/ordinance was used to declare the burn ban and did the ones declaring it have the authority to declare it.

Also, like "da man" said, shouldn't they have used the county emergency warning system to notify people of this emergency?

I was told the Chief Deputy signed off on the County Burn ban.

Can he LEGALLY do that? NO

Do we need the Burn Ban - YES Its way to dry and far to many fires taking place and fire fighters should not be subject to thoses risks because of STUPID people!

As the Kansas Fire Chief, I was called and informed they were doing it. I support the ban but I dont support the way in which it took place.

Under Illinois law things like this take place under AHJ, Authority Having Jurisdiction. The County Chief Deputy DOES NOT have the Jurisdiction to institute a Burn Ban. Only the Fire Chiefs within their own Fire Districts can do that on an Emergency order. The County Board by ordinance or township/village/city boards by ordinance takes time! Ordiance passing takes NO LESS than 30 days to pass because it must be open for public review for that time frame by law.

Another Example of why we need new people in office that understand the law.

Chief Gates with the Paris Fire Protection District is WELL within his rights to issue such a ban and I commend him for doing so.

Not sure where you get your info , but Gates was the one who put in the burn ban. I would think as the Kansas Fire Chief you would know this. So once again put away your hateraid and crawl back into Motley's hole.

Had no clue we could not burn! Darn I burnt those leaves on Friday. How are we supposed to be informed? I am not a subscriber to the Beacon News and we don't have cable but direct tv instead. the only local channel is Champaign.

Hatraid?

I spoke with Brian before it went into effect and it was Brian that made the suggestion but was told since there was no County Chaiman in town the Chief Deputy would sign what ever paper Brian drew up.

As far as getting my info, it was from the source and I was the one that suggested instead of faxing the burn ban letter to all the fire departments maybe they should page it out to all of them, which the county did do that.

What does Motley have to do with anything?

Thanks for the info Kirk Allen.
Why did they not text/robocall everyone that signed up for the emergency notification thingy.
We don't even know if it works - would have been a good test :)

Sounds like the Kansas Fire Chiefs feelings got hurt. What I would like to know who is he going to call when he tells Bubba he is in violation of the burn order? Allen might want to think about that before getting his ass kicked!

Why on earth would my feelings be hurt? I could care less about it.

Not sure who Bubba is and since I am not burning anything dont think I need to worry about any violation.

As far as getting my back side kicked, care to tell me why? Not sure of your point but as long as you feel good about it its fine with me.

Maybe we should start a new thread on this subject - I really don't think the emergency warning system is working - and nobody wants to fess up to it.

IMHO it should be tested, at a minimum, every quarter.
