I live in NC and had been hearing about Depot Days for 2 months. I planned my visit to Newbern around Depot Days which was to include a street dance at the end of the day. I've never been so disappointed in an event that I spent 12-1/2 hrs. driving to attend! Not only was there no street dance, but we were told it was cancelled due to the "no-show" of the DJ. Whoever heard of a street dance with a DJ? I enjoyed the Fireman's Street Dance event that was held a couple of months before so much more.

It is true that Depot Days was not the Depot Days of the past. When Mayor Dennison decided to let the Depot Days commitee of the past go...he let the city of Newbern down. However, the 2009 Depot Days was not a a complete flop. Yes things could have been done in a better way,but one must learn how to crawl before walking. And in this case, the city has to learn how to run a festival. Much crawling will be done. Planning an event such as this takes know how and experence. The former members of the Depot Days had this and had many great things planned. Each year the festival got better and better. However, the cith thought they could do better. Well, as you saw,...you decide. Please put all things aside and bring to the table the people that know how to run the DEPOT DAYS. Act like citizens of Newbern and let us have a great festival. The 2010 Depot Days Festival can be a great thing if people are willing to put their feelings aside and work together for the promtion of Newbern. That is what we need. We need to make our city shine and promote it in every way possible. People always complain why Newbern does not have what other cities our size have. It is because we do not promote our city. We have alot to offer...why not show it off. The Depot Days Festival is just one great thing we have...do it up right. Talk to you city officals and I mean talk to themSit in on the city meetings and see what is going on and see how they spend your $$$$ and see wehat out city is planning. Your input is important to them and they need to listen to you. After all..you put them there. If you don't like what your city officals are doing....LET THEM KNOW...you have the right to voice your thoughts. Remember the FREEDOM OF SPEECH ?..it is one of your rights. You do have the right to stand up for you rights and to let the city officals know how you feel. Thank you.
