Democrats take over Dutchess County Legislature

ghly disgusted with the fact that Bard College students who are not residents and do not pay ANY property taxes in Red Hook were allowed to vote. They have no vested interest in the community and as far as I am concerned are transients. Their parents pay their taxes and they should vote by absentee ballot in their HOME communities if they are SO interested in politics.

The Bard students are voting on local issues and should be excluded in local ballots. The tranfer tax bill passed because of the bus loads of liberal students tilted the scales. To top it they were all seniors that graduated and left the area. My complaints fell on deaf ears. Maybe....Just maybe the new administation will do something about it..........I doubt it.

Perhaps that will teach your now-deposed Town Justice to claim that Bard students are spoiled and deserve bloated penalties to teach them a lesson. Bard students, residents of a major employment and culture hub in your community, have every right to be voting in the election. Equating taxes with votes is antithetical to the basic democratic process.

Temporary residents should not be part of a process that determines the fate of permanant residents. Period.
