For an outfit that has a feel good rep, it has a employee policy, that you will find is not feel good. Many employees are force/coersed/said to have resigned when compensations insurance is involved. Does not feel good to me, but thats just my opnion, what do I know.

I worked here as seasonal staff for a few years. I found that Omega is very much a business, and though they continually work on large scale multi-million dollar projects to attract paying guests, they leave their staff unpaid, and out in tents, in the highest Lyme disease incident area of the USA. There is unfortunately, a big disparity between guests and staff, and it was severely disapointing for me. When the staff were told not to speak for a 10 day silence retreat that one of the paying teachers was holding- I had enough, and moved on. This place was very hard work- and very low paying. There are cliques, and many small groups of people that act superior and closed off to others- and it's again, disapointing. However, the campus is gorgeous, albeit misleading at times (for example, the "garden" is almost completely for show, not use) and the opportunities, fantastic. That is, if the right people like you.

I wasn't completely fair. I would like to add, too- that it IS an unforgettable experience. If you can get past the fact that you are going to be used for manual labor and not compensated to the extent you should be, and you're not too exhausted after working full time or near full time and trying to live in a tent or a dismal camp room- you might be able to work on yourself, build community, squeeze a class in your schedule or grow. It IS an amazing place, with amazing opportunity, especially if you are there just one season.
