Battle brewing over same sex adoptions in two North Carolina counties

It seems that judges in two North Carolina counties have been quietly helping same sex couples adopt children. The practice came to public attention during a custody battle between two lesbians - why does it always seem that so many of the custody disputes that end up damaging LGBT parental rights involve two lesbians who just can't seem to work things out?
