I agree with Governor Daniels. We ahve far too much government. THe complaints generated by these local politicians is personal. They are going to have to go out now and get a real job. When they do they will understand that we are tired of supporting their pet projects. There are a lot fo things I'd like to have but settle for what I can afford. I don't plan on leaving my children a bunch of debt either. These are tough decisions, but Governor Daniels is willing to make them for the good of this state and its citizens.

Oh! This is news? Of course, these government cronies would not want to slim down their budgets with lower payrolls. It's big business. The largest unions left in America are government unions.

You wouldn't say this if you are facing layoffs because of Mitch's proposal!!

That clown from Gibson County is a perfect example of Tax Payer Waste. Try buying a new suit every twenty years and mix in a little shampoo as well.

I didn't vote for the man, but I will support him because he is not sitting on his hands. He is DOING something while others (including many Democrats) just talk. I would like to hear how the "streamlining" proposal (was it with IBM?) of the child services, ADC, and other social service agencies is progressing. The Governor said these agencies were all too top heavy administrative-wise (as are our school systems) and he was going to eliminate many duplicated positions. How about a story on his progress?

You wouldn't say that if you were losing your house because you can't afford your property tax bill which is a direct result of too many layers of government. Start looking for a new job instead of complaining about losing your government(taxpayer funded) job.

Such a clever put-down, Chad. I believe the Governor will indeed win out and replace the extra officials in Gibson County.... but not if he stoops to using childish insults.

Mitch is right, people get laid off by the thousands every day. If a business can't make money, they make cuts. If the government is spending too much money, then you make cuts. Pure and simple.

Then why don't we elect more people to run a city. We only elect one mayor. Why don't we elect their deputy, their finanacial officer, chief of police, planning director, etc.

He is taking action to solve you problems. it is a good plan, if anyone had a better idea they asked for YOUR IDEAS and none came forward. Be part of the solution not the problem. Quite whining about what the government is not doing for you. The fouinding fathers did not create a socialistic government. They are NOT THERE to do everything for you. Do it for yourself.

Thanks, Mitch! In a time when the vast majority of Indiana citizens are hurting because of high taxes and a slumping economy, it makes sense to trim budgets - including governmental ones. Thanks for having the guts to propose sensible reform to reduce government waste. Let's all hope it goes through. As for those who might be facing layoffs because of the new proposal - yeah, times are tough - join the club. My tax dollars don't need to subsidize unnecessary salaries, pensions and health care costs.

I say they didn't go far enough. We need to eliminate property taxes. All they will do is double the assessed value of our property and we will be right back in the same boat.

Give a politician the opportunity to your checkbook and they will ruin your life. This isn't reform. It is a temporary measure to get the people to shut up. In a couple of years, they will be right back where they are now.

He is not laying off workers, just political cronies who like living off the government tit. Some of these politicians are just as bad as some fraudulent welfare cases. They like the easypay for little work and they also like using taxpayers money as a personal checking account.

Now it is time for them to see how ard it is to find a real job.

A surprising comment from a liberal democrat.

As long as state government is lead by the country club elite, we will never have efficient government. Daniels appoints his friends to high positions and they are incompetent. They make major changes that cost millions, and in one or two years, another friend is brought in to make more changes costing more money.

Stop the turnstile and appoint career managers. Both parties are guilty of this, and both don't really care about wasting millions in administrative mismanagement.

They need to study this very carefully and not make any rash decisions. It may make a lot of sense to eliminate county government in areas like Indianapolis, where the city essentially takes up the entire county. It may make no sense at all to do this in a county with little population and scattered towns. The problem with the reccommendations is that they tend to be "one size fits all", which isn't always the best thing.

daniels sits on top of the hill in the gated community and tells the rest of us about the cuts we have to make. When is the king going to cut a little, he is still riding around in the big bus and big car with all his staff following him. The king has all the answers for us, but he will not suffer with us.
