Green Bay, Wis.– October 2 , 2008-- Today Cellcom announced its plans to build an environmentally friendly building located on Maple Street at the base of the new Oregon Street Bridge in Sturgeon Bay. The 6,202-square-foot structure will house Cellcom’s Sturgeon Bay retail store and a coffee shop.
During the demolition process earlier in September, Cellcom, in partnership with SMET Construction Services, diverted more than 89 percent of materials from disposal in landfills. All asphalt and concrete was crushed to be made into local road beds. All metal, lamps and ballasts were also recycled. Excess wood, plastic and metal will be recycled during the rebuilding process. “This building project reinforces our company’s commitment to implement innovative, creative solutions to become more earth friendly and reduce stress on the environment,” said Michael O’Malley, Cellcom’s internal controls manager.“We are fortunate to be able to start initiating green fundamentals from the very beginning of the Sturgeon Bay building.“ The building’s water faucets and paper towel dispensers feature photo-eye sensors to reduce excessive dispensing of post-consumer paper towel and water. Alternative paint and carpet adhesives will improve air quality inside the building. High-efficiency light bulbs and ballasts will be utilized to reduce energy consumption. High-performance windows will decrease energy usage, improve air circulation and increase natural light. All electrical appliances will be Energy Star rated. The exterior design also advances Cellcom’s green initiative. A bike rack for employees and customers will be present. Outdoor furniture will be made from post-consumer material. The parking lot for the building will be reduced in size and a rain garden will be established in order to manage water runoff by creating natural filtration of water back into the ground. Trees that grow to be more than 10 feet tall will be planted on the grounds to create a cooling effect for the building and parking lot. Cellcom’s retail store is due to open before the holiday season. The coffee house is expected to open early 2009. Cellcom’s renowned network is customized to our rural markets and customers. Cellcom is a sister company of Nsight Telservices and a subsidiary of Nsight, a provider of communications services throughout Wisconsin and Michigan, with more than 80 retail and agent locations. ### |
