WTAP is saying that 50 cats and an unknown number of dogs were killed. How horrible for those poor animals.

They said on Chan. 5 that the animals had died and that all of the supplies had been destroyed -- Then they gave an address and phone number to make donations for supplies --- If all of the animals died then why do they need supplies?

This goes to paypal donation site for shelter.

Don't bother contacting Doddridge County Human Society. They don't do anything for Doddridge County animal, let alone help another county.

You really need to be careful not to appear to criticise Doddridge County while at the same time asking us for donations.

I was told that there were around 40 dogs in another building and they survived along with a few cats. Doddridge does have a pet food pantry. Maybe those folks can help?

are you kidding? They have numerous dogs and still are taking in dogs & cats moving forward. The reason there are so many is because of neglectful, irresponsible humans.
not for nothing but that really was the dumbest thing i've seen yet.

I'm going to assume, kiki, that you are not from Doddridge County, OR you didn't read to what I was replying to....doesn't make alot of sense to come onto a certain site, trash the county that the site is based on, but ask for donations....

Nooooo not trashing Doddridge, I said don't contact the Doddridge County HUMANE SOCEITY, that group of individuals do not help or do the job they collect money to do..... there are great animals lovers in the our county, The commissioners got a very good animal control officer who is working really hard to place all adoptable animals and they got a women who is taking animals down to be spay and neuter, Her name is Jean and her thing is called the Doddridge County Spay and Neuter Club. The animal control officer is Aggie and she post her animals everyweek. There is also the Doddridge County Pet Pantry run by yet another animal lover in action with her idea. I am told the commissioners and sheriffs have been real suppotive too.

DC Humane Society isn't anything bad or using money incorrectly. They have been trying for years to set a shelter up and have just managed to get a piece of land and are putting it together ---

There is a lack of interest in the county and when you have a county of people with mostly low or borderline low incomes they can't financially support their own pets let alone a Humane Society.

There is also a problem when there are three or four organizations to handle the pets and none of them work together due to personality conflicts and bad mouthing each other --- Wouldn't it be nice if they would grow up and work together????

AND DC Citizen --- Thank-you for explaining that more animals had been housed in other places --- The news report didn't make sense that all of the animals were killed but they needed supplies ---

From Donna of yester year who now runs the Human Society of North Central WV to the current DC Animal Control officer to the Ritchie HS Shelter, everyone has joined together to help DC animals. The only one not working with anyone is DCHS. Over the years, I heard it said from many that as long as those mean spirited people are in charge of the DCHS, they would not support it, neither would I.

Are we supporting the animals or the people --- Sometimes we have to rise above personalities to make progress ---

And if the DCHS (not the High School) is struggling to get themselves set up then how can they help others?

U must have hit a nerve with all them comments. Human socity in this county is a bad joke. Mean people who get in the way of any one doing anything for animals. They wont's work with the spay and nuter lady and wouldn't even loan kennels they were not using in storeage to the animal control lady so she could save dogs this winter. How can a human socity take money and not help animals. I was told the ground they got was from county money to, don't no that for fact, but herd it.

"They wont's work with the spay and nuter lady and wouldn't even loan kennels they were not using in storeage to the animal control lady so she could save dogs this winter."
I know this to be true. I have spoken to Aggie numerous times about the lack of help (no help at all) being given to her by the Humane Society.
The Spade and Neuter program was started to help and work with Aggie because she wasn't receiving help from the Humane Society.
No need to flame me. I am simply backing up what Hit a Nerve stated because I know the part I copied is a fact.

Isn't Aggie the animal Control Officer that is under the auspice of the COUNTY COMMISSION? How can they hire someone and NOT give her the tools that person needs to do their job? Doesn't she have a budget of taxpayer dollars, unlike the Humane society who has has to beg for funds from the County Commission just to simply get a place to house these animals?

If you talk to Aggie, I beleive she will confirm that the commissioners have been supportive of her, given the limited resources of the county. Hopefully, a real county animal shelter will go to the top of the list, but until then, the commissioners have been supportive. Give Aggie a call to confirm. And, I beleive if we verify it, the commissioners gave money to the Human Society which helped purchase the kennels and land they have, cut won't help Aggie with. Somewhere along the way, the human society stopped helping animals, and only carry the banner for fundraising purposes. They have not actively helped animals in a few years, probalby since the vet left them. who knows. Call Aggie through, she is real fair, friendly and very knowledgable and practable about all animals.

Limited sources for the county?????? The Commissioners are getting ready to add even ANOTHER PAID DIRECTOR to their employees --- And they don't have money to support those they already have ----

And from what I heard about the Commission giving funds to the Humane Society --- they only gave to support the PURCHASE of the property for their shelter --- nothing else ---(As for the Humane Society doing nothing but raising funds --- Didn't the Commission INSIST that the HS provide their audited Financial statement PRIOR to giving them money?)

The Commission also chose to house the animals in other counties --- Why does the animal Control Officer need EXTRA kennels?
Do your research

Harrisville, WV

The animal control officer was never given any kennels from the Humane Society. The Humane Society is supposed to allow the Animal Control Officer the use of the Kennels.
I really wish you would speak to Aggie herself instead of posting on this forum and stirring the pot. There are a lot of people out there who are uninformed just like yourself. Please do some research, speak to Aggie, get some facts, then post.
At this time we should be coming together as a community to help animals who have no choice in the matter. But we should research who is helping the most and in what areas before giving help ourselves.
Again this is my opinion. There is no need to flame me.

Why is the Humane Society SUPPOSED to give AGGIE kennels? Is that in their bylaws or something?

AGGIE is a COUNTY EMPLOYEE performing a job that is under CONTROL of the COMMISSION ---

For the Humane Society to be responsible for giving kennels to Aggie would be like for the Family Resources to provide food stamps instead of DHHR ---
