It's about time someone did something about this man, he does not deserve to a juvenile judge he is an embarrasment to this county and he needs to step down and allow someone with a heart and someone who truely cares about the childrens welfare to replace him. he is about nothing but money and who can line his pockets thats how he rules. If they dug a little deeper there is no telling what all they will gey on this man.

If he has had drinking issues and they are affecting his duty, then he should be taken off the bench regardless of what he has said about illegals.

I happen to know that Judge Jackson cares a great deal for his work and the children that come before him in court. His dedication is evidenced by the fact that he has been a Judge for nearly 30 years and his success is evidenced by the fact that he has run unopposed for several terms. He also is one of the few Juvenile Court Judges in this State to stand-up against the virtually worthless DCS system which allowed two violent children to be placed inappropriately in a foster home, resulting in the senseless murder of two women in White Bluff this past New Years Eve.

Whether Judge Jackson had too much to drink in a hospitality suite one year ago has nothing to do with what is being discussed here. He has been censured. He has been punished. He made a mistake and he faced the consequences.

Regardless of your feelings about immigration, people who are in the US illegally are breaking the law. They are criminals. Per the juvenile code, parents who include their children in their illegal activities -- be it drugs, prostitution, or illegal presence in this nation -- are guilty of a crime.

If you do not like the law, then contact your legislators. If you do not want our Judges to enforce the laws as they are written, I think that you should consider the implications of Judges picking and choosing which laws to enforce and which ones to ignore.

AMEN!!

The ILLEGALS put their children in this situation---NOT the US or US citizens.

If a US citizen is caught breaking the law and arrested---what happens to their children??

Hello?!?! We are talking about ILLEGALS, right?!? I mean, I don't know much about this judge or anything, but if they are illegals I don't really think they have the same rights granted to citizens. I don't mean they should be killed or anything, but why clog up the court system with people who aren't supposed to be here anyway?

Why do illegals have rights?? We give them driver's licenses and they can't even read the road signs. we the people, of the united states of America..should have the rights. you shouldn't be able to sneak across the border and then scream your rights are violated. And the senate just past a bill to give illegals social security benefits!! WTF is up with that. My husband has worked his btt off all his life and is now disabled and will have to fight tooth and nail to get the benefits he paid into the system all these years and we're just going to hand them free money when they haven't worked her a day in their life....not to mention free health care, etc. Illegals go to the hospital and have babies with no insurance, apply for tenncare and then it is the doctor's responsibility to track down all the tenncare providers to check for coverage and then we have to write it off. But if a american with an actual social security number without insurance is in the same situation, they are self pay...most of the time their $8.00 an hour job is too much to qualify for insurance. and to top it off...they call us and ask us if we can speak spanish....please!!!

From the TBA:

A Dickson County Juvenile Court judge has been reprimanded for his conduct in cases involving children who were illegal immigrants, children of illegal immigrants or children he thought might be in the country illegally.
Judge A. Andrew Jackson received a public censure from the Court of the Judiciary, the panel that disciplines judges in Tennessee.
The formal letter of reprimand notes that a public censure "represents the highest degree of judicial discipline authorized by law short of the Court seeking a judgment recommending your removal as a judge from office.''
Jackson's reprimand stems from three hearings in 2007 in which the judge repeatedly asked about a child's legal status in the country.
The disciplinary panel also noted that Jackson would consistently determine a child to be dependent and neglected despite the fact that it wasn't an issue before him.
Also, the judge would jail juveniles after he determined they were unruly as a result of their status, their parents' status or his perceived view of the status, the letter of reprimand states.
Jerry Gonzalez, a Nashville civil rights lawyer, filed the complaint against Jackson after colleagues sought legal advice. Gonzalez did not represent any of the juveniles.
"The judge would rule the juvenile was unruly if he found the parents to be disrespectful of the law," Gonzalez said. "Under the statute, being unruly has nothing to do with the parents. They could be drug dealers and it doesn't mean you are."
The disciplinary panel found that Jackson violated the rules requiring a judge to uphold the integrity of the judiciary, to respect and comply with the law, to maintain professional competence, and performing judicial duties without bias and prejudice.
"In addition to the violations of the Canons of Judicial Ethics and state and federal constitutional rights, your conduct detrimentally affects the integrity of the Tennessee judiciary and undermines public confidence in the administration of justice," wrote Don Ash, the presiding judge on the Court of the Judiciary.
Jackson could not be reached for comment.
Actions from the Court of the Judiciary
On May 24, the Court of the Judiciary issued a public censure to Judge A. Andrew Jackson of Dickson County for inappropriate behavior at an August 2006 Juvenile Justice Conference in Memphis. On the evening of Aug. 7, Jackson overindulged in the consumption of alcohol to the extent that he was unable to remember some of the evening’s events. An African-American conference attendee, however, remembers asking Jackson about job opportunities in his area and that Jackson responded with disparaging references about the man’s race and ethnicity. Shortly thereafter, Jackson profanely referred to a conference attendee from Pennsylvania and physically pushed the person. Later that night, Jackson endeavored to coax a female conference attendee to join him on the dance floor. When she resisted, Jackson made a crude sexual remark.
Jackson has since undergone an alcohol abuse assessment, which concluded that this was a singular event and that he does not require treatment at this time. The court found that Jackson’s conduct violated Canons 1A, 2A, 4A(1) and 4A(2) of the Code of Judicial Conduct and brought the judiciary into public disrepute under Tennessee Code Annotated §17-5-302(8). Pursuant to an agreement with the investigative panel of the court, Jackson accepted the censure. He also penned letters of apology to the three individuals

The aliens are drinking and spending welfare money to do it. But that's OK because the bleeding hearts love them. Let them work and pay tax on every thing then see how long they stay. I hope i didn't hurt your little feelings!

What you aren't realizing is the FACT that 2 of the cases he tried the children were not illegals, the parents were legal and the children were born in the US, but he thought they were illegals. THAT IS BIASED OPINION! The 3rd case the mother and the child are here legal but his father was an illegal. So ship his father back don't place the kids in state custody because you don't like illegals.

I fully believe that all illegals should be arrested and sent back. I also think we need to bring the Marines home and string them along the border to shut that puppy down.

But..

There is no room in concept of AMERICAN JUSTICE for a redneck maverick pulling cowboy crap. The LAWS are inacted by the ELECTED represenatives to coincide with the Constitution. They are tested before the Court of Appeals or the Supreme Court and are meant to be applied in FAIRNESS to ALL, not to be circumvented or twisted by some redneck in Dickson County. This is not the AMERICAN way.

People that do this type of thing do it because they are smarter than EVERYONE else. It's pure ego on their part. If this dude was a legal genius, he' be in a MUCH bigger office.

Whats next, treating single moms like dirt? Bald headed guys get off easy, while red heads to hard time?

The law is meant to be applied, in eveness and in fairness. It's not ANYONES position to hijack the AMERICAN WAY.

I agree with you wholeheartedly all ILLEGALS should be sent back to wherever they came from. And I agree with the second it was stated appropiately.
Isn't it nice when we can all get along?

I'm right in line with JWOL on this one too. I feel that illegal immigrants do the citizens an injustice. I also feel like every single one should be arrested and sent home.

I am for people from other countries coming here legally. DO it LEGAL, pay your taxes and you have just as much right to this country as I do.

After all, it's not like we didn't come from so where else either!!!

PERSONAL & CONFIDENTIAL

A. Andrew Jackson
Dickson County General Sessions Judge
4000 Highway 48
North Suite 1
Charlotte, TN 37036

FORMAL LETTER OF REPRIMAND

In re: Complaint of Jerry Gonzales against Judge A. Andrew Jackson
File No. 07-3154

Dear Judge Jackson:

This shall serve as a public censure pursuant to your agreement with the Investigative Panel of this court and in compliance with Tenn. Code Ann.§ 17-5-301 (f)(5). This reprimand relates to your actions as the Dickson County Juvenile Court Judge in hearing cases in which children appeared before you who were illegal aliens, children of illegal aliens, or perceived by you as being illegal aliens. In juvenile cases in which the defendant juvenile had illegal or questionable legal status in the United States, you consistently determined that the child was dependent and neglected when the petition before you did not seek to have the child declared dependent and neglected and that you also when informed that this was inappropriate conduct, determined each child to be unruly, jailing these juveniles as a result of their status, their parents’ status or your perceived view of the status. This course of conduct was demonstrated in hearings held before you March 14, 2007, April 18, 2007 and May 2, 2007 in the case of a juvenile identified for the purpose of this letter as R. I. so as to protect that juvenile’s identify. In those proceedings you repeatedly asked counsel and the child “if he was illegal.” You announced to counsel your predetermination of the case when you stated “Mr. Taylor, you know what I’m going to do on that don’t you, might as well go on and get your appeal set up.” These statements led to laughter in the courtroom and because of your perceived predetermination as to Hispanic individuals appearing before you. You also in this hearing told the representatives of the child to “Get on over there and get Birch to sign it. It always just irritates me to no end,” referring to the requirement of counsel to seek an immediate appeal from your predetermined judgments and incarceration for juveniles in matters dealing in this particular case with a charge of speeding, expired permit and a seat belt violation.

Your actions in this and other juvenile cases violated Supreme Court Rule 10, Canon 1 requiring a judge to uphold the integrity and independent of the judiciary, Canon 2 requiring a judge to respect and comply with the law, Canon 3 B (2) requiring a judge to be faithful to the law and to maintain professional competence in it, Canon 3 B (5) requiring a judge to perform his judicial duties without biased and prejudice and your conduct in dealing with these juveniles deprived those individuals of equal protection of the law as required by the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution and the equal protection provisions of the Tennessee Constitution. In addition to the violations of the Canons of Judicial Ethics and state and federal constitutional rights, your conduct detrimentally affects the integrity of the Tennessee judiciary and undermines public confidence in the administration of justice.

This public censure represents the highest degree of judicial discipline authorized by law short of the Court seeking a judgment recommending your removal as a judge from office. In the future, you are to accord all persons who appear before you equal protection of the law and to decide their case on an independent and fair basis.

Sincerely,

Don R. Ash
Presiding Judge
Court of the Judiciary

I don't think anyone should be judge for something there parents do.But I do think that other judges dn't give the same punishments to illegal as they do americans.I have seen judges that give teenagers probation and big fines for minor first offences and then turn around a give illegals that have done worse crimes and it be a second or third offence just a warning and court cost.I think these judges should be repremanded too.But americans dont have there own special lawyers to go up to bat for them.I say find all the illegal and send them packing.

Don't know much about this Judge, but his history says he has no one that wants his job, so if someone else wants it let them run for his office. As far as the illegal imigrants are concerned, pack them in a cattle car and send them back to Mexico, illegals have no rights, because they are wanted fellons. If you are in this country illegally, and it i a known fact a price should be put on your head and you should be arreated and deported, maby we need some bounty hunters to collect them and send them back. If they come back illegally and are cought we should put them on Road gangs to clean up our roads, repave what needs repaving, cut bushes and trees that need to be cut, lets give them jobs and when their sentance is up, send them back to mexico.

Judge Jackson is one of the biggest jokes in the country. I have seen him first hand on many occasions drinking and driving. His claim to fame is the ability to whiz twenty feet. Wow...reall classy. He is corrupt as the day is long and yet the powers that be know it and do nothing about it. I am so tired of these "reprimands". They amount to wasted paper.
