This Larry Houston, Director of the Desoto County Animal Shelter should do a critique of the Memphis Kill Facility, or better yet, run it for a month. Fire everyone, train a new, smaller staff.

Wow, maybe he could run the Memphis Animal Shelter. It is apparent no one in this city is capable to run ours. And I'm losing faith in those who are in the position of hiring.

Isn't that the truth! Maybe AC will see this and learn from it.. ok, I know that is wishful thinking. Seems like if a small Desoto County with probably much smaller budget than Memphis can run a shelter properly, surely the city of Memphis can. Of course that would probably mean no more employees who are felons, and people who could read and write..........

i am so glad to hear that one animal shelter in the area is running well and that employees are trained by an orgnization. Maybe AC wharton could take a hint at this, nothing else seems to work with him or his cohorts.

Way to go DCAS!

But, I have to ask the writer, Candace McCowan - did you pass high school grammar? I was shocked by how many errors there were in an article posted on a news site...doesn't anyone at Channel 3 proofread before posting?

I lived in Southaven not to long ago and a beautiful dog was just sitting out side my door one night. It started to rain and thunder and she bolted into my home. I have a dog already but they seemed to get along well enough. She did have a bit of dirt but it had to be from being out for a bit. She was someones pet but no one ever claimed her. I wanted to keep her but I could not due to restrictions to were I lived. I called the desoto shelter and they took her to where they found her a happy home.. I think they are great there and the man who came to my home was as sweet as cherry pie

Truely a great article and a great place, I am so glad that AP is doing a show on this place, I know several people who work beside them and they are fantastic rescue folks....I only wish Memphis could have been part of AP as well, but we all know what goes on here.

I work with Shelly and we do go to the shelter often. It really is a great shelter, and the people really honestly do care. It makes all the difference in the world

I think that any good publicity for an animal shelter in our area is a big ray of sunshine. Memphis Animal Shelter is still a complete disgrace but because of Memphis publicity the Tunica Humane Shelter has finally recieved much needed help (a no kill shelter) The ladies that started and manage a large number of dogs have done such an outstanding job. I am very happy that Desoto Animal Shelter is getting national recognition. The more people that are made aware of the plight of helpless animals, the better off the world will be. I wish all shelters could become NO KILL, except when an animal is too ill or injured to save.
