blh is behind the times. Custody battles have already been decided on the basis of protecting children from parents who smoke.

What? How dare the government are telling us what to do? It's so unconstitutional and I can't believe this crap is happening! Now it's really going to kill more jobs in the tobacco industry if teens aren't allowed to smoke anymore.

Concerned Citizen wrote: This rule is not talking about general society. This is an environment where the majority are under age along with a minority of adults who should be setting a good example for those students. The "nanny state" is implied when you are dealing with students. So, can teachers no longer have a drink in a bar or restaurant, can they live with their non-marital partner, can they speed on the way to work and talk on their phone while driving? All of these behaviors would be terrible for little Johnie to see would they not...

It was important that students not see teachers or other respected adults smoking, Bowling said.
"A key to this is the positive role modeling. There are so many students, young students ... that don't have a wonderful home life," he said.
If these students don't get a good example at home, he said, "They need it at school."
Indoctrination. They're taking your kids....

Drugs are O.K. though! Sounds like a grand plan. They can't control anything else that goes on in the school, but theyr'e going to control tobacco.

Buy a clue, Observer. If they were blowing their smoke his way, it might just be pushing the envelope a bit on the self-defense plea, eh?

They would just have to keep their stash off-campus is all.

Whatever happened to "Hey, you're a kid, and you're not allowed," instead of "Hey, I'm a self-sustaining adult and can make decisions for myself." Instead, we're being forced to live as if we are children.

Yeah smokers are certainly acting like children the way we see them stomping up and down and threatening to hold their breath and all! Its just like watching a spoiled kid getting told he can no longer get his way, smokers have pulled every far fetched "the sky is falling" argument out of the sky that the can think of!

WHY CAN'T I??" whining and carrying on over simply being required to indulge your addiction in a manner that limits its effect on others DOESN'T qualify as living as if you are children? You mean subjecting everyone else to the toxic effluvium created by your self-indulgence WASN'T living as if you were a child? Personally, I'd say you had been and are living as if you were a SPOILED child, and it has nothing to do with the law.

Sorry, I responded before I realized you had essentially said the same thing I was and said it before me.

WTF wrote: You mean to tell me with all the money issues the schools are having that the schools boards are wasting time, efforts and tax money on something this stupid. I don't smoke and realy don't have an issue with someone going outside during their time (breaks/lunch) to smoke. What's next? We start telling people they can't read their Bibles at work during lunch because it offends someone. Schools need to start running like businesses and the costs need to start happening at the top and work there wayu down. It wasn't your local school board that made the "recommendation", relax.
