.....and school staff shouldn't be allowed to visit local bars either or any bars for that matter! It is absurd what these public workers do these days. They're using taxpayer's money to but this stuff and it is harnful to them and those who see them do it. It must be stopped!

I recommend all women teachers bottle feed their babies so we don't have another "squeeze" incident too!

What will we do next in the name of role models? I know.....No sex either! Not with anyone!

If the result of sex is this little socialist, I'll vote for that, too.

He thinks he can make the world conform to his idea of utopia, in the name of role-models for the disadvantaged, but all he's doing is driving people away. People who engage in a legal activity.

How's your War on Drugs going, kid? They took all the Oxy out of the state, so now you have a heroin problem? What's next? Line 'em up and shoot 'em? Oh, I know - build more prisons and lock 'em up.

More proof that every generation must reinvent the wheel. Do you realize how many kids will start smoking just to irk you?

Exactly OPPOSITE of what they preach and campaign on!

Given that the mental component of addiction includes a distorted sense of proportion and perspective where the object of the addiction is concerned, the local board members mentioned as hurdles because they are smokers should be required to recuse themselves from this decision, since they are mentally unsound.

This whole no smoking thing wreaks of hypocrisy. Just ban the sale of tobacco products altogether and be done with it!

The issue of staff members smoking is only a minor part of the problem here. In a lot of districts, the on-campus smoking during athletic events is far more of a concern. The courts have consistently underlined that the schools are a special place in society; having stricter regulation of smoking on school property is just an extension of that.

This little wanna be law student has no clue how her push in Delaware County will impact so many. She will be proud of her accomplishment until on eday when she grows up she realizes that more laws or rules prohibiting our freedoms is not the answer. A far better way to keep kids from smoking is to let them watch these adults smoke and see how they look aged, their breath stinks, and they have health problems. That and generally if you ask any smoker they will say they are stupid for smoking and they should quit. Hopefully if it ever came up they would tell their students that too. Another stupid example of misguided and misdirected effort. If we just let them smoke outside we could be focusing on something more important.

And to think that a society that largely used tobacco was able to roll back a great depression, defeat the Nazis and Imperial Japan, re-build Europe and Asia, obtain prosperity at home, and put a man on the moon.

Wow! I wonder if today's tobacco-free society can decide on how many more billions to raise our debt ceiling, along with all the other great challenges facing this generation, like how to best allow gay marriages on military installations, etc...

Why don't we just raise the kids at school so all they need to do at home is sleep.

The state would never ban it because it draws too much money from it, to get rid of it.

I don't know how much rhetoric this phrase is starting to be, "Nanny State".

Good luck trying to enforce those rules on university and college campuses.. because it won't happen. They've tried doing it at the hospital and that didn't work. They've tried doing it in bars, and I'm sorry but that hasn't worked. I've been to plenty that still let patrons smoke, they just don't have ashtrays. They've had the "War on drugs" going on since the 80's, and by golly they are more drug addicts then ever and the drug dealers are our DOCTORS!!

Quit wasting peoples time and money because it's not going to quell people's behavior.

We lived once in the era of Enlightenment.. I think we've hit the era of Entitlement.

WoW this is a big issue that needs to be addressed now. Well now that I think about it they better address it now before we vote some sanity back into the Ohio government. Also, No one has mentioned charter schools. I could probably walk down the hall in one of those smoking a cigarette

This sounds like schools sending a powerful message to vulverable young people that smoking is suicide. Every time I see a teenager smoking, I ask "On what planet have you been living?" Anything at all that keeps smoking away from kids has got to be a good thing.

Funny how our government can regulate smoking, drinking, guns, women's rights, and anything else, but they can't seem to regulate the financial sector.... Or corruption in our government....

If you donate the right amount of money to them you would probably get away with smoking a blunt in the hallway.

Nothing but window dressing. As the article notes, the State Board has no authority to make schools completely tobacco-free. It has to happen at each and every district.

This is frequently the case with the recommendations of the State Board.
