Evans, Elmore Should Each be Honored

Full story: Times-Journal

I read with a great deal of interest the Times-Journal's recent editorial suggesting the renaming of Wildcat Stadium to honor Rufe Evans.

Rufe Evans was my wife's uncle he did a lot for the Fort Payne area I do know that he spent several monies of his own so that his Alma Mater could have a nice stadium..Especially on the Home Side
It would be very fitting to Name your stadium W R Rufe Evans Jr
stadium and the field Jerry Elmore Field

Our new stadium herein Albertville is Named Aggie Stadium/McCord Field which is nice sine i went to the Elementary School that use to stand there and i played on the play ground during my years there...

BUT CITIZENS OF FORT PAYNE' HONOR THESE TWO MEN THAT LIKED YOUR SCHOOL AND CITY.

These are both fine men, and Johhny Holtzclaw had the field house named after him, and the gymnasium is named after W.A. Israel, still there is no individual that has done more for the betterment of the Fort Payne City Schools and Athletics than G.B.Beasley.If you go to the games on Friday nights,he is still there. Not only was he the principal for years, he served 3 terms on the school board, and twice served as school board president. He also is the person that recruited Elmore. He has not just been a supporter of the football team, he was a leader for the entire school, band, and cheerleaders as well. If those great leaders from the past such as Nancy Bloom, could speak today, she would agree G.B. Beasley is the person most overlooked.
