Why didn't the bus driver ask questions? DUH!!! Then close the door on them when they tried to get on the bus. It would have been just too damn bad if they had gotten the arm caught in the door and drug down the road. They should be charged with more than what they are getting.

this isntthe first time this has happened this year ,the bus my kids rode on was stopped by some poeple that said someone onthe bus had done something and she let them on and it was reported and nothing was done.they want investigate anything a parent has concernes about whether it is a principle or a school bus driver, but when a student get injured by one of these people then maybe they will start taking the concerns of the parents with more than a brush off.

Another example of our fine Davidson County School System employees. Our school system is a joke. Our principals are a joke. As a parent who has raised concerns twice in one week concerning them checking id's when I pick my child up, nothing surprises me. I had to FORCE them to check my ID before picking my son up from school just yesterday. The person working in the office told me she had "seen me around" therefore didnt need to check my ID......... I just shook my head. It is going to take something bad happening for them to open their eyes......

Honestly, you sound like one of the parents everyone hates to deal with. You're just looking for something to complain about. Yes, if you're recognized it is a good assumption no one will ask to see your ID. How many times do you think the opposite happens and a parent pitches a hissy fit when someone demands an ID because no one recognized that parent? You really seem to be someone who is simply looking for faults instead of anything good. I'll just bet your child is perfect, too, isn't he? If you'll name his teachers, I'll send them a sympathy card.

I agree! And I'm sure they meant no harm because they didn't intend to use their little weapons, either. They were just having a friendly little joy ride so they could share a play date and talk about old memories of their school days with their little friends. No one ever expects these clowns to "do any harm" because "It just couldn't happen here." It'll be too late one of these days.

first of all whoever wrote the last comment you are obviously one of the lousy ass teachers in our davidson county school board!I totally agree with 'momto2' and if you dont you are crazy.there has been alot of nonsense happen in our davidson county school such as ledford and they just brush it off like it's nothing.i mean what if they were going to hurt someone they dont know that they assume because no one has done it yet but there is always a first time for everything and i know there are alot of students coming from Laurel Oaks and it would have been so easy for them to do anything because the shitty school system hasnt verified clearly who to pick up and who to not pick up,the bus driver really has obvioulsy got to be a dumbass.and as for the checking id's if they say they are going to do it do it to everyone i mean its not like they know everyones background just by seeing them around.

If the driver did not know the "students" then the driver should have questioned it and asked for their bus assignment sheet issued from the schools' transportation coordinator if they were new. Otherwise the "students should have been listed on the bus's route report that is issued from the county transportation office from the TIMS System that shows each and every stop the bus is to make along with the riders. NO Excuse! Poor judgment on the driver!

I agree that the bus driver is the one at fault. I live in this neighborhood and my children both ride a bus to Wallburg Elementary. I can PROMISE you that their driver knows everyone getting on the bus, takes care of them as if they are her own, and notices, out of concern, when she does not see "her kids." She would never have allowed something like this to happen!! Why can't there be more trustworthy people like her taking care of our children?

s.reid & momto2.....If you think the school system is so horrible then why dont you pay the big bucks to put you're precious little angels in private school or homeschool them yourself. Drive them to school and pick them up everyday so they dont have to ride the school bus. Oh wait, you work during the day? It's not convenient to do this? Then shut your d*mn mouth!! Teachers put up with alot of bs to only get paid what they do and to have people like you running around saying that the teachers and principals are idiots just is pure ignorance on your part. You have no idea the guide lines and restrictions they have. Maybe not everything they do makes sense but thats not their fault. Every decision, every rule is made up through the school system so if you want to point blame, call up the county school borad and fuss to them. Dont just assume that all teachers are 'lousy dumba**es'.

P.S. I blame the bus driver. When I went to school, you weren't allowed to ride the school bus without your parent or guardian filling out proper paperwork before hand. The bus driver should of never let them on. I could maybe understand it a little better if it was two 7 year olds but 21 & 18?? Seriously?

The bottom line is that bus drivers are not the smartest of people. They sit behind the wheel in a catatonic state and simply pray for the day to end.
There should be more training and better pay so that we can have some qualified drivers behind the wheel of a bus filled with our children.

Stop hiring fat old ladies to transport our children. They are only there for a easy buck so they can buy more food.

My oldest goes to Ledford Middle and rides the bus with high school students. It scares me beyond belief to think of what these 2 adults would have done. You don't take knives and box cutters to just "hang out" We moved to this district thinking it would be a safer better school. I am not impressed so far. They don't take complaints as seriously as they should.

If the H.S. bus drivers where as strict as the Elementary one's then this may have not happened. I live in the neighborhood that this happened in and I couldn't see this happening on an Elementary school bus that comes in our neighborhood. They wont drop a kid off unless there parent or someone that's on their list of child pickup is at the house. If you are not on the list they demand to keep the child on the bus. Maybe H.S. bus drivers will have to do a roll call now that this has happened.

first of all, i take my kids to and from school.:) I don't trust the bus drivers.

And for the record, I don't usually complain so to say that I am "one of the parents everyone hates to deal with. You're just looking for something to complain about" is totally out of line. Obviously you are a teacher. ;)

Last week, when i picked up my children early, they never questioned my identity.(I had never laid eyes on either of them to my knowledge) When I questioned them, they both said they had "seen me around."
So, are you telling me that they may have seen me at Food Lion. And knowing that they had seen me before they KNEW who I was and who my children are?????? I think not. Common sense there. Think about it.

Obviously I ruffled feathers here. I have always said what I mean and meant what I said. I understand that there are good teachers out there. In fact, my best friend is a teacher. ;) But the simple fact it, Davidson County Schools is not known to have the best of the best. Obviously they need to revise their employment requirements on bus drivers. I mean, can you honestly believe that the bus driver didnt THINK the 21 year old looked a little "OLD" to be going to high school????

Dear Davidson County School Officials,
As a Davidson County resident and the mother of two kids that I put on the bus every morning, please hear me. Hello... This is a HUGE wake up call for the safety of our children!! Despite the fact that there are 20,000 students transported each day, it seems to me that each bus driver should be aware of exactly who they are driving on each route. Would it be so difficult for school officials to provide these drivers with a list of names, adding new students as they came along? Not on the list, not on the bus. The fact that those two boys were able to just get on the school bus as easily as they did, leaves the door wide open for a future potential threat and action must be taken immediately. If it comes down to not having the funds available to put this or some other bus safety program into place, please - allow me. I will do the work for free! New students or not - it is responsibility of the school system to relay this information to our drivers so that our chidren are as safe and well as they can possibly be. To dare to take the welfare of our children for granted is frightening and shameful. There is no blame here - things happen and hopefully, we learn from them. There has to be a solution to keeping this kind of thing from happening again. Please dont walk away from this issue, using ignorance or policy as an excuse for not making a change for the safety of our children.

Maybe you should become a busdriver. Do you think you could tell the age of all students? Oh, I forgot guess you would check ID for all students. I know my children have sleep overs and ride a different bus home occasionally, and don't expect the bus driver to tell them they can't ride. I do think that they should have been charged with more, but I don't fault the bus driver. If you don't like the public school transportation then I would suggest you have your child as a car rider, or better yet homeschool or private school.
