What is wrong with the people of Davidson County? Why do we not just go down to the jail house and pick a random felon to be sheriff? Hopefully enough educated people will turn out to the polls to keep him out.

This doesn't sound like a problem to be solved by petition. The law is pretty clear on this.

It sounds like a court case if he does get elected.

The man imbezzeled money, falsified documents and commited many other criminal acts. If you owned a business and an employee did what he did you would have them arrested and wouldn't think twice about hiring them back. But re-electing him as sheriff? Oh yeah that makes much more sense. Wake up! Hege is still the same man he always has been....a Criminal!

It amazes me to see all of the Hege signs in yards. What does this man have to do before you see him for the convicted CRIMINAL he is?

I think they didnt put their numbers down for fear of retribution. After all he has shown many times what hes capable of. He's roque and feels above the Law. Anyone can clean a county up using rogue tactics. Its just a shame that the Sheriff position is an Elect only position. I think they should promot from within only on this Election. I dont hate Hege like alot of u do, but rules are rules, Laws are Laws. He should not have a chance to run being a convicted felon.

Senile eldery and other misguided Davidson County citizens, go ahead and vote him back in. What sense does it make to have a CONVICTED FELON holding the office of Sheriff! A man or woman who is a convicted felon whom applies for a job in law enforcement is turned down and not hired. You really want a deputy who is a felon for whatever reason coming to your home to take a report for a crime committed against you. Yet, you want to elect a man to the office of Sheriff who is a convicted felon. Hipocrites, Idiots whatever you call yourselves, the name surely fits!!!

This clearly appears to be Board of Election only decision. If you truly think that a petition over rules the board, then see whats happening now. The Board is the one breaking the rules. Anyone else would have got "Nope your a Felon" from the Board. The petition should have never been started and the Board should have denied his Ballot due to Laws. It was wrong to do what he did to be a Felon, and it is wrong to Elect a Felon for Sheriff. 2 WRONGS DONT MAKE RIGHT, Right.

Here is the North Carolina law on this:

NCGS 14-415.1(a)

It shall be unlawful for any person who has been convicted of a felony to purchase, own, possess, or have in his custody, care, or control any firearm

Also, the law states that an antique firearm does not fall under this provision. So the sheriff could carry a weapon manufactured before 1898, or a muzzle loading gun that does not use fixed ammunition.

I agree. She needs to stay up in Forsyth County and not worry about what's going on down here in Davidson.

I listened to a few of the citizens of Davidson county last night on Fox. WOW!! They sure talk like they are an intelligent bunch of people down there! I couldn't even understand one gentleman. He's probably a mayor somewhere! LOL! You put a felon into office, and it will be your downfall. Never mind, too late!:)

Why does it sound like a court case if he's elected? The law does not prevent him from running for any elected office. As others noted, the law may prevent him from carrying a firearm, but that's about it. Heck, maybe he'll carry a crossbow, taser, or a big stick.
Rather than planning a court case, wouldn't it be smarter to plan an effective political campaign to beat him at the polls. Of course, I don't live in Davidson County, so maybe it's just not that simple.

I do live in Davidson Co. I really liked a lot of Hege's ways, like the jail cells being painted so that if you act like a child you can live like one. I like the fact that they can't have magazines. My favorite is when a man escaped and got a few miles down the road and he was made to walk back(so I heard)! With that being said, anyone else can follow those rules. I understand that their isn't a law that a felon to run for sheriff BUT come on, another convicted felon couldn't run for sheriff. I guess the next convicted felon that gets let out we can hand them the papers to run as well. Come one, they would be laughed at!!!!
