From what I hear, there is as much or more talk about the local Sheriff's election in November than there is about the Presidential one. It's one we can personally relate to.
I seem to be in the majority when I say I am Very Unsatisfied with and Anxious to get rid of Mike Rackley.
He has repeatedly FAILED to exhibit any real leadership qualities at all. He frequently "deligates" to others so he does not have to assume any direct responsibility but later takes all the credit when the task is finished, as recently demonstrated by the recent storm.(I know for a fact that he sat on his backside in the "mobile command post" / trailer borrowed from Laclede County while he "designated" his command to his number one leutinant (Bobby Sharp) who only achieved his position by being a yes man and lap dog (pardon the k-9 pun) at the expense of others he stepped on when opportunity arose. If you don't believe me ask any posse member.)
Rackley also has blown the budget time and again with little to show for it except increased personnel and over priced used cars from Ohio, Pennsylvania or god knows where.(Not to mention that little audit that was to have taken place by the state after he used county funds to throw a private Christmas party with individual gifts purchased from his wife's business. Just what percentage of a kickback did she/they get?)
His failure to properly lead/supervise/manage his personnel allowed the inmates, who apparently run the aslyum/jail, to set it on fire.
I have spoken with different members of the sheriff's office, who are afraid to be identified. All say morale is at an all time low and each is in fear of being left hanging out in the wind. That is of course unless your one of his personal pet projects.
(I'm not even going to mention the reported afairs he's had and then blamed on another officer when someone reported seeing a cruiser in front of the house that night, because most people already know about it.)
I tell ya, D.C. politics and corruption ain't got nothing on Dallas County.

First off, most of the people who like to constantly complain about the Sheriff and/or the department are the very same people who work for him or previously worked for the department. It makes scorned former-employees look guilty, even if only by association. Moreover, to name specific people and not post your own name is the behavior of a coward. As for the deputies who sacrifice their own comforts and safety for ours each day, I applaud their efforts. It really takes conviction to stand by your duties, even when "morale is at an all time low" as stated above. The purpose of our government, law enforcement included, is to serve the public. Yes, it is a constitutional right to speak your opinion here in America; however, I find that an informed, intelligent discussion is always more worthwhile than baseless ramblings. Perhaps these "different members of the sheriff's office, who are afraid to be identified" should spend more time working to be a part of the solution, not to mention portraying an image the County would be proud of, rather than participating in secret gripe sessions with unnamed persons, who later post unfounded opinions on the internet.

First off, I know the man and therefore Would NOT work for him. Second, I do commend the deputies who work hard in a job that has a very high risk potential for little monetary benefit. Yes, some of them acutually do try and often receive criticism. As far as naming him directly, leadership (or lack of it) starts at the top. As far as wishing to remain annonymus, it's not an act of "cowardice" rather inteligence. It's kind of the same principal as when you go into that little booth w/ closed curtain. Obviously this is your first time in a chat room/blog. Third, your idea that only disgruntled and former employees are fed up w/ him is obsurd. Wake up and Look around. It's not just one or two who are trying upset the applecart, but a silent MAJORITY. Also, If there were any former employees who were disgruntled, they probably have good reason and are only guilty of working for a "politican".

In response to your latest, I would like to rebut each of your points, but let me start by stating the obvious. It is quite bizarre that you are 265 miles from Buffalo, Missouri, and yet you are so very passionate about an issue that does not affect you directly.
Now, on to my refuting. First, I didn't realize that your intent was to work for the Sheriff, or Dallas County. Due to the fact that you are in Oklahoma, I never considered it. The point I was trying to make is that most of your opinion is based on these anonymous conversations with unnamed deputies that you've supposedly had.
Second, I should have been more clear before. I meant that for you to name one specific deputy as a "yes man and a lap dog" is an act of cowardice.(Oh, and a bit off the subject, it's spelled intelligence. I find that when a person is trying to get across the point of how smart they are, it’s usually best to spell correctly as much as possible.) Back to the matter at hand. At least give some resemblance of proof when making allegations against someone’s character. I don’t know Sharp, but I’m willing to bet that he deserves more acclaim than you are giving him.(Oh, by the way, again, it’s spelled lieutenant.) Now that we are on the subject of baseless allegations, the same goes for the “reported affairs” the Sheriff had, for which he blamed other deputies, that you mentioned previously...you know, the ones that you’re “not even going to mention.” Come on. Is this just flat out gossip ro are you going to offer up some proof? Make this worth my time already.
Third, I never said that ONLY people who did/do work for the Sheriff’s department are ready for a change. I simply meant that it’s more common for those folks to do most of the complaining, since they are personally vested in matters such as an election. I just feel like vigilante statements like yours are generally founded on rumors or lies which are most likely rooted in or around the source... within the department.

I suppose my real question is this: Are you just a troublemaker or a worthy adversary for some healthy debate?

I agree that it is time for a change. A positive one. The person taking over should have several years of law enforcement experience. It should be someone that knows how to budget small county money. This isn't Laclede County, we have to spend our money wisely and have a plan for it. You just can't tell officers to limit their driving to save money. Our vehicles are in poor condition with thousands of miles on them. Is that what we want our officers catching criminals in? How can we depend on our officers keeping us and our community safe when they are driving vehicles that are broken down and worn out? I feel that some of our officers are good. The honest ones. But let's be honest, what has our current sheriff done to better our community? Painted the jail pink, after letting the prisoners burn it down? I have heard "rumors" of affairs, etc. But what if those "rumors" are true. Mike has done his "service" to Dallas County, I as a citizen think it's time for him to wake up and figure out that our budget is better spent helping keep our community and officers safe. I praise the men and women who take on this career. They put their lives on the line everyday and night to keep us safe, should't we atleast get them a boss that will do the same for them? They deserve better. Vote wisely on election day, your safety could depend on it!!!!!

I agree w/ what your saying about learning to budget. It's my understanding that at least six of the deputies have take home cars and live in places like Nixa, Halfway, Macks Creek, Conway etc. How many, if any, are having to sacrafice tax $ for this little perk?

I live just east of Louisburg and have been very impressed with Rackly and his folks. They came out and did a professional job when we were having problemes with the kids down the way about 9 months ago.
The fact of the matter is that once things have come a ways, some people see it easier to say 'we want more, we want more' instead of looking back and seeing the ground that's already been covered. Does anyone remember what the sheriff's department was in even the few years before this Rackly took over? At least Rackly has made progress and keeps doing so.
Maybe the reason the department is not running too smooth is because the few disgruntal employees are abusing their work time and using the computer to 'vent' on this blog!! Get back to work. Be part of the answer, not the problem!
Next, someone mentioned a few things we need to think about.
1. trusted prisoners = trustees. they use them. most jails do. that's not a bad thing. It's not a perfect system, but it works.
2.'junk' cars. Maybe that's all they can afford. I'm glad he went out of state and bought cars. HE'S THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX! You have to work within your means. They've never failed to get out to my place. that means that some of them have to run all-right. I'm sure Rackly would like all new stuff, but what's the answer? No $$$. And let's keep in mind that stuff breaks down. If it's mechanical, IT WILL BREAK DOWN. That's a fact of life.
3. Someone said Rackly does nothing but assigns tasks to others. Well, if he has the means to do that, more power to him. THAT'S WHAT A GOOD LEADER DOES! Worried about him taking the credit on TV? Well, the secretary of the FORD CEO doesn't go on TV, the FORD CEO does. He's the leader. Get over it.... that's what bosses do. He's the chief, the others are the indians.
4. At going on $4 a gallon, I'm glad Rackly stepped up to the plate and is trying to save gas. Maybe then he can use that saved money and buy everyone a brand new Rolls Royce to drive (wishfull), but at least he can maybe keep something on the road to get out to my place. No different than yours or mine home buget, unless you won the lottery! Give and take.
RACKLY- keep up the good work. I don't see anything wrong with what your doing. Tell your guys thanks too. And FIRE the ones who might be giving you a hard time. They are wasting time, googling how to get the "I" in TEAM.

I would have to agree with you that there are CERTAIN deputies who are excellent at the job that they do. Who were those deputies that came on your call? Let's give them the credit they deserve. Do not be mistaken, their good work is not because of their leader but because of their passion for the job. I am curious, however, how you misunderstood Taxpayer. Mr. Rackley is not in any way conserving gas by providing take-home cars. In fact, with gas at $4 a gallon as you state, those patrol cars should stay within the county that provides them! Perhaps what you are referring to is the apparent limitations of deputies to patrol highway 65. Have you looked at the paper recently? The majority of Sheriff's Department tickets are written for traffic violations on highway 65. You're right. Good job Mike! Keep up the good work, the highway patrol loves it!

From what I have heard and I know its only hear-say but i've heard that they havent filed for any grants to get the money to buy new cars. Looks like Buffalo city did they have new impalas. but thats not really the point the point is to have a sheriff that thinks like the majority of us do. that knows what would be good for the safety and well being of the county. and I dont think rackely is the man. and to the comment about hwy 65 tickets its because hwy 65 is visable from pizza hut.

First of all you dont know a good thing when you see it (keep up the good work Rackly). As for the tornado that hit Buffalo MISSOURI Sheriff Rackly and Lieutenant Sharp worked at the site for 40 hours in just 2 days and it was it City limits...where was the Chief of police?...maybe its time we get a new cheif of police....because I dont think that the site of the tornado seen the city police very much because I know I did't. Hmmmm...now for Pizza Hut they have GOT to eat just as well as every other human does. And NOW about the cars...if the conty didnt think that they had to have new road maintainers that surly cost over 100,000 dollars a piece the Sheriffs Department could have at least two newer cars with the one road maintainer. Well I guess its more important to them that they have BRAND new road maintainers than it is to put the deputies lives in danger when their in pursuit in old cars. I Do agree that the out of county deputies do not need to take home cars. I do think that Sheriff Rackly is the best running for next term. The reason being is one thats running for Sheriff could not even hold his job as a deputy without being suspended for not doing his job right, another has been in trouble with the law, and the last one has been seen multiple times sleeping in his car in front of the jail while on duty. And as far as their personal lives that should not have anything to do with their job as long as its on their own time (watch ur husbands ladies it might be them instead of the Sheriff). So myself as well as others think that Rackly is for sure the man for the job.

P.S. As Far as Lieutenant Sharp goes to me he seems like a hard working, loyal, brave deputy-K=9 officer. So you want to argue this one lets go.

You are obviously looking at Mike Rackley with rose colored glasses! He is far from the man that you think he is. And as far as the tornado goes - that was his job (f.y.i. Buffalo city limits is inside Dallas County). As far as the former deputy goes who is running for sheriff, do you know the whole story? Have you asked the men involved PERSONALLY? I HAVE and you are WRONG!!! He was not suspended for doing his job wrong. He was suspended for standing for what he believed was right. I would suggest that if you want to know what REALLY happened, you contact the people involved personally. And as far as LIEUTENANT Sharp goes, who really cares! He isn't running for sheriff!

Well here goes,Sheriff Rackley has not quit when thing got tuff he stayed right in there till the fight was over, not like someone I know he ran when things got tuff so we dont need him in there because if it got tuff he would run home to mommy, and if he did get in his wife would think she was God we dont need that.Another one thats running for sheriff you dont know where to talk to him or not he might bite off your head or he might be sweet but we need someone in there we can talk to any time and feel like we wont get our heads bit off.We sure dont need one in there thats been in trouble before.I dont think we have any lap dogs as deputies [I dont think I would like the k-9 sitting in my lap],You know we all make mistakes so come on let get the right one in there[Rackleys got my vote]

There is only one candidate for Sheriff that has the character to do the job and that is Mike Rackley. Shortcommings yes and mistakes yes. It takes alot of good honest a loyal men to properly run a Sheriff's office. Mike has one deputy that is lucky to have a job in law enforcement running against him. Nice, a guy pays your salary and you run against him. Some character. The same character that would set a kid up on a speeding ticket in Willard and get fired!
The second candidate who is a boyfriend of our original poster here. Screwed up a homicide investigation and was the lead investigator and called it a suicide. Thank God for the highway patrol criminal investigators who got charges filed on the offender. I support Mike Rackley. He is doing the best he can with what he has. He does need to clean house though and starting with the original poster.
