Maybe if we weren't spending most of the hotel tax proceeds on convention center debt, the relatively small state revenue cut wouldn't mean anything as we would be actively promoting ourselves. It seems remarkable to me that such a small percentage of the overall budget should have such a dramatic impact on the promotional budget. Are we to take from that the money being collected locally is being spent on debt and salaries, with little left for promotions? If that is true, isn't that the concern the hoteliers had about the room tax in the first place?

Perfectly said. 100% agree. JUst enough to pay salaries, benefits, travel, utilities. Almost zero left to promote Erie!

Why do so many of these names seem familiar?

Remind me again why Erie never grows and prospers?

How does the average Joe get on one of these boards so he/she has a say in things?

Ron Sertz is now being paid by taxpayers to promote sports in Erie? WTF?

John Oliver was head of tourism board in Niagara Falls NY and look how great that place has turned out?

How many conventions have we had that need a 40 hour a week director of sales AND a coordinator?

How many NEW conventions are booked for the next 3 years? If under 50, the ENTIRE staff should be fired and replaced IMMEDIATELY.

Okay, they have spent 5 or 6 years "branding" the area as the PA Great Lakes Region? What a waste of money. Any idiot knows we are in PA and there's a Great Lake here.

By losing $32,000, that's less than 4% of their budget, they can't do anything now? Are you kidding me?
