<quoted text>My children do not sponge off the system nor are they lazy. Continuing to call names and showing contempt for the disabled is really wrong. The total time my girls spent in the hospital and rehabilitation centers combined was over a year. Trumatic brain injuries can't be faked. When you have some spare time please look up "Diffuse Brain Shearing". This TBI leaves the afflicted often UNABLE to work. My youngest daughter wants to work but no one will hire due to liability issues. She never has the chance of leading a normal life or getting a job. Kmac, if you have any spare time, I challenge you to volunteer at a brain injury rehab facility. Then maybe you can quit being so critical of those who are disabled. Having a brain injury does not make the person lazy. Those like my girls struggle just with activities of daily living. Try also showing your clients empathy instead of contempt. It will help.
I'm confused. Where do you see anyone saying that SSI should not be there for the truly disabled, or showing contempt to anyone who is truly disabled?

I work with elderly and disabled, and several of my disabled residents have had brain trauma. I consider them truly disabled, and would consider your children disabled as well.

On the flip side, I know someone who was on disability for weight-related issues. She got gastric bypass (at taxpayers' expense) and lost the weight. Miraculously, just when they were getting ready to take her off disability, they found she had a "personality disorder".(As in, she has none, I guess.) So she was able to remain on disability. It's those kinds of cases I question.

Does that clear anything up?

You are absolutely correct, the drug addicts know that if they go to their doctor and say they are depressed, they know the right things to say, they will get SSI and of course the access card.(more scrips yeppie yeppie) How wonderful is our country to help those who do not want to help themselves but refuse to help those who do.
I hope and pray that you and mary p never experience any of the hardships of drug addiction. It is a disease and as for receiving ssi/ssd for it, well the system screwed up a long time ago. Believe it isn't like that now. Not every or all addicts want the "free" money, they want to be healthy enough to live in everyday society. But of course their are those like you, who are so judgmental, I hope it never bites you in the ass...such as your child, spouse, loved one or friend having an illnes such as drug addiction. Give up your cravings forever and not look back, can't do it can you? Ever give up something for Lent, just to say I cannot wait till I can have it again. That my friends is the life of an addict, they can't go back. Now just to educate the other neanderthals here, THERE WILL BE NO COST OF LIVING RAISE THIS YEAR OR NEXT FOR SOCIAL SECURITY!!!Therefore, a little extra pittance. Don't lose your job on this blog either, you will be called worthless and shiftless, no matter how you really are in real life. How is the glass in your houses?
