Summer Drought Ahead

Jul 23, 2011 Full story: KAIT-TV Jonesboro

It's been over one week since Jonesboro has seen measurable rainfall. The effects of this summer heat and the lack of rainfall are reaching a critical point here in Region 8. Craighead County Emergency Management Director David Moore says the land is getting extremely dry, which is leading to more brush fires.

Dang, over ONE WEEK? geeze, they'd better get worried! in POINSETT COUNTY it's been over 2 weeks or longer since we had ANY rain at all! And how about last summer, when Jonesboogie was getting rain left and right,on a weekly or more basis, and,we got rainfall a total of 3 times the entire stinkin summer?
Why don't you look for something worth reporting on that might actually impress somebody,KAIT?

You talking about Jonesboro, Georgia, or what? We didn't get rain at my house in Jonestown for at least eight months last summer. Started out ok this year but no rain (only short sprinkles) for two months now. I hope we all get what we need pretty darned soon. Starting to look like a dust bowl again.

I am talking about last summer in Jonesboro.I have a brother on one side of town, and,a best friend in midtown.I have other friends on the Paragould side.at least weekly, you could see from where we live, the clouds and t'heads building up there, then, all 3 would tell me "we got a shower here for about 15 minutes".The entire summer, this particular part of Po.Co.got rain a total of 3 times; Memorial Day weekend, the middle of July when it came about 7" around in places, then, not again until TS Gustave hit the week of Labor Day.That was IT.
In Jonesboro today, rained all on the north and east side of town and looked as if it moved west.Got home here, nothing. Not a drop, from just south of town past Dollar General and the car dealerships.
It is BAD.Maybe in Aug,when it starts to ramp up down in the Gulf,it'll happen.
