Fatalities continue to climb

A 37-year-old Cheyenne woman, identified as Brenda K. Collins-Newman, died last Thursday in a two-vehicle accident on WYO 59, 16 miles north of Douglas in Converse County.

Fatalities will continue to climb so long as babies are born, it's a pure mathematical fact as everyone dies sooner or later. If they want fatalities to decrease, the population must be decreased.

She got what she wanted, what's the big deal? She went to church once and prayed to go to heaven and now she's up there walking about all pregnant looking.

Richard is right. A higher amount of traffic will naturally mean more fatalities. Per capita it's not going up.

I get so ticked at these knee jerk reactions to anything as means to have an excuse to make a new law.

A few years ago they started to claim that DUI enforcement was responsible for reducing highway deaths when really it was more likely a compbination of 5 buck a gallon gasoline, poor economic times and the newer cars being equiped better.

Right! I lived in a small town a while back that saw an increase in the number of fatalities of a certain road, a 100% increase, yet the amount of traffic on that road quadrupled during that time period. There was a lot of talk about oh my god, there are more death! So the speed limit was lowered. Then the #1 cause of accidents was cars passing trying to go 65 on this straight-as-an-arrow road. The result of that was more deaths. But still, the number compared to the amount of traffic was still lower than it first was. But all we heard was how 1995 saw more deaths than 1985. Then Clinton closed down the air force base out there, and the population dropped almost overnight to its 1985 levels, and so did the traffic fatalities. You guessed it. The decrease in speed limit was hailed as the reason fatalities went down, though the number was still higher than in 1985 when the limit was 65, and the #1 cause was still people passing to go faster than 45.
