Sure they do, it's all about the money and double dipping jobs for retired State Troopers. EVERY radio must rent their access on Marcs. The Marcs radios are much more expensive than "regular" radios and can only be purchased from the State of Ohio yet the state does not maintain each radio, only the network that it uses. Marcs is a very complicated system that depends on many repeaters tied to telephone lines and electrical power to work. There are still dead spots in Ohio and the only solution they have is to install another repeater. If this is the ONLY radio system available to a public service agency and it fails, what than? The concept surrounding Marcs is a good one but to depend on ONE system to do everything is just wrong. Every agency should be able to talk with other agencies around them but needing something you can use to talk with your officers while they are in Cincinnati, what's the point? Ever hear of a cell phone?

By the way, radio communications were disrupted during 9/11 because the main hub for all of the city's radios was on top of the first tower to go down and was disrupted at the time the first plane hit the building. There was no back up to cover the loss of these radios just as there is no back-up to cover the loss of Marcs.
