Group claims ABC Board has pro-alcohol bias

Full story: Arkansas News Bureau

It may be , that Cleburne is currently a dry county , but it is not in the best interests of the citizens of the county to be a dry county. This community is touting itself as a tourist community and yet wondering why tourism is low in this area . simply put , it is because we are dry. I commend the ABC control board for granting permits and hope they continue to do so , The Police and Sheriff's depts. can hire more personnel if needed but should not be allowed to hinder progress of the business community by denying permits to local businesses.

"...community by denying permits to local businesses."

They are not allowed to have permits in the first place!

The reason why we are against it is not only because we have convictions against the alcohol being sold. We are infuriated at the fact that the ABC Board has more control over what we sell (alcohol-wise) that our OWN ELECTED OFFICIALS. Come on people, get the whole story!

im an outsider and have travelled round much of the usa and i have visited heber springs and i can see the negative impact it has on the community ,i my self own large restraunt in texas but would love to start up in heber but we make revenue of alcohol sales and for this reason i would not invest in a buisness in this area, there are many other people who would invest if the town but we need the crazy alcohol ban to be lifted, it would be a great benifit to the community and bring tourism and money into the town ,people are not asking for nightclubs and strip bars just for more places to have a beer, i mean come on lets get into the 21st centry the towns full of meth addicts anyway o the non alcohol people are just being hipocritical, and maybe the restraunts would have a decent atmosphere and not look like tin sheds

Wow, so just because we have people doing stuff like that already means we should go ahead and make it easier for them? That makes alot of sense... I think we should crack down harder on the people who do this illegal actions! Not provide a medium of legality so they can do it more.

The wet county's are the main one stopping the dry county's from becoming wet, it stands to reason if Cleburne goes wet it takes money from the businesses in wet county's and takes tax dollars away due to the loss in the sale of liquor. It might not be sold here but you know as well as I do if you have been to the various liquor stores, you will see plenty of friends there to buy liquor. How many times have you been ask to pick up some for a friend? If Cleburne county was wet we would have no more problems that we have now. It's crazy to think it would make things worse, it might even help to grow our town into to the vacation spot that it should be. Ever been to the Thunder Bird? How many bootleggers do you know of that never get pinched?

I wouldn't put it past the surrounding county's(liquor store owners) to be padding the pockets of some the officials here
