Full story: MyFoxOrlando

An Oregon man has settled a federal lawsuit over what he says was his First Amendment right to express himself by giving the finger to sheriff's deputies The Oregonian reports Robert Ekas settled the suit for $4,000. In his lawsuit, Ekas said that in July 2007, he flipped off a Clackamas County deputy while driving, and the deputy gave him tickets ...

Does sign language count when you have the right to remain silent?

With my luck if I gave a cop the finger I'd get cuffed and smacked.

You know, why these filthy pigs think they hand out tickets like Halloween candy is beyond me. Giving the finger IS protected under the first amendment like it or not. I have on many of occasions flipped off the filthy pigs and I will continue to do so when the attempt to bark an order at me. They are NOT the keepers order they are the cause of crowd conflict.

I have a right to give a lot of people the finger, but being an adult and having a vocabulary and a brain, I find that I can have a discussion with most people and work things out. If not, I can go to court and try there........

We forget the ultimate purpose of law enforcement. True, there are LEO who are not honest or have problems with power, but most are in it to keep us safe and put up with a lot of crap to make that happen. They are, in fact, human........

I was once stopped for speeding after getting the news of a possible sudden death in my family. Once stopped, I decided to take the ticket so I could get back on the road. I quietly sat while he was writing , but kept asking if I was alright. AFTER I broke down crying,(this was before the days of cell phones) I followed him to a nearby payphone to make a needed phone call to confirm the news and was sent on my way ticketless and with a reminder that my life was precious as well.

Your response is too reasonable for the Offbeat forum......lol

Yep, cops are people as well....and just like people you have the good and the bad but in general they are there for our safety and will get my respect until they do something to lose that respect.

Anyone may flip off any member of my family. I'll do nothing at all. It simply is a matter of opinion, free speech and expression.

Cops are not there for anyone's safety. That is a myth. They are there to enforce laws passed by elected and appointed officials. Nothing more, nothing less.

No one likes being insulted but if a cop is so thin-skinned that he feels like he has to give retribution for being flipped off then he doesn't belong on the force. What'll he do when the next person comes along and calls his mother a cow? Shoot the guy?

Daily Horoscope for May 25

Aquarius

You're very feisty and energetic and there's a lot you want to achieve. You'll get rather impatient if anyone stands in your way. A close emotional relationship will either be sexy and exciting beyond belief, or bad-tempered and tetchy. If you're in a grumpy mood, try to work out why - and what would improve matters. One thing that's bound to help is physical exercise, because it will burn off any excess nervous energy.
