Make no mistake folks, this is de-regulation at it's finest. We have allowed private industries to take over basic human needs for profit.
City leaders are or course, in their back pocket. We will never get out of this vicious circle until we, the citizens own the power companies again.
This is classic failed republican party "Free market" capitalism. Only there is one thing missing.. competition. How convenient.
We will see if I can make them bend at the meeting today.
This is NOT DEREGULATION! This is the EXACT OPPOSITE OF FREE MARKETS. OUC is owned by City of Orlando. All decisions are made by OUC's Commission. The Commission is a GOVERNMENTAL BODY. How much more regulated can you get??

"owners of homes and businesses are learning to use less electricity each month."

See, conservation really doesn't pay. Another hose job. Only question is how many times can the consumer get hosed until there's nothing left to hose???

This state is out of control, at this rate you will have to be RICH to live in Florida. It no longer has the appeal that it did 5 years ago. There is alot of coruption going on in this state and as a previous post stated we have no one in our corner. CRIST is afraid of his own shadow and allows these utility companies and insurance companies to do whatever they want. I e-mailed Crist 5 times regarding the 25% increase from PROGRESS ENERGY and got ZERO responses. He obviously doesn't care about the countless people who are being forced from their homes. Hopefully I will be out of this state by this time next year, it's a nightmare.
Your right, at this point only the rich will be able to afford to live here, problem is have the rich given any thought to who will wait on them, clean their houses etc? What will they do, bus the poor people in from across state lines to do these jobs?

Why not OUC sell its Taj Mahal palace and leaseback needed office space in a lower-cost area?

I just got back, and I will tell you one thing, the board made up it's mind a long time ago.

There are so many points I left out when I spoke, and had I known only 4 people would be speaking, I would have taken a 1/2 hour.

Oh well, march 1st, be prepared to pay higher rates.

This is absolutely deregulation my friend. Make no mistake about it.

But, there are measure you can take to reduce your electric bill even amidst the proposed rate energy increases. As a Certified Energy Rater, our company is looking to help those who are trying to find ways to reduce their electric bill in terms or energy efficient items. I would be glad to offer help.

The PSC is a waste of time - Wedgefield water rates are going up 100%(although the notice says 50% they can't do basic math) and we had meetings with our PSC rep and the rate increase still went through. Oh, and you can't drink the water out there, it's poison, so we all buy bottled water on top of what comes out of the pipes.
Where is the representation for the consumer? Not the PSC.
There is NO REPRESENTATION for the consumer. The PSC has allowed "rate increases" that are financially detrimental to the public. Is there NO CONTROL over their actions? Where is the media to publicize their questionable actions? It is time to DEMAND how these increases are justified and to demand full disclosure. And where are our politicians (the ones elected to protect & represent us?) The utility companies represent greed at a time when it is least needed (e.g. Progress Energy rate increase, Orlando Utilities rate increases - I'll mention that a cust. service rep also told me OUC is demanding deposits from those who even pay on time-because they are afraid they might be left with an unpaid bill; Wedgefield Utilities (A.I.G. is parent company that has received excessive amounts of federal bail-out money). The media (newspapers, TV stations, etc) should be challenged to produce facts to expose these devious acts.

Why would I save any more electricity? I will end up with less, and they will raise rates to compensate again.

They will not lose share value just because we use less energy. They are in business to make profits.

It's funny that the only people that are NOT allowed to see an upside to investment are taxpayers.

We get to socialize the losses, and that's OK with capitalists, but as soon as taxpayers want a return on their investments, we are socialists.

Don't tell me you are measuring a return on investment in clean air, because capitalists measure return in only one form, DOLLARS.

Someone is confused and muddled today, making it difficult to talk for long without becoming equally bemused. Avoid making decisions or researching important information, because there's a strong possibility of getting crossed wires, or talking at cross purposes. A memory may also be distorted now, leading to mix-ups or bewilderment.
